The Nimbuzz push notification

nimbuzz-push-notofication

The new 3.0 O.S. from Apple brings a lot of new features and Yes, push notification is on the goodies list!

For the ones of you that are not familiar with the term, push notification is the ability of an app to alert you of something even if you’re not running it. This new feature is very useful for Nimbuzz users, especially because we can only run one app at the time on the iPhone or iPod touch.

We are working on the Nimbuzz push notification and we promise it will be available VERY soon!

We have already tested the new feature, in the “Nimbuzz Lab”,  and it  proved to be really fast! The alerts of new chats, text  messages or voice messages come in real-time. This way you can surf the internet, play a game or watch a movie, and still be available to all your friends. We are pretty sure you are going to like it :D .

Thank you for all your feedback and all your enthusiast requests on Twitter, Facebook and our Blog!!!

Just wait a little bit more (or keep pushing) and you shall be rewarded :D !

[Update]

If you are looking for cheap international calling from you mobile and you end up here :D , I would like to introduce you also to NimbuzzOut. NimbuzzOut lets you make incredibly cheap international calls from your mobile, to landlines and mobiles anywhere in the world. To see how cheap it is and how much you can save take a look at the NimbuzzOut  Rate Calculator ;) .

  1. I’m really looking forward to this release. Push notifications are out for more than a week, and the SDK is out much longer now and there is no viable push notification service for skype out…

I really hope your update will be approved by apple very quickly…

    Pros ebuddy so far: push
    pros nimbuzz: skype and landscape.

    I can’t wait!

  46. I am disappointed: push is working but i don’t like it very much. I would prefer a pop-up instead of this balloon tip which can be overseen very quickly. Both would be even better.

After receiving the push notification, I log on into nimbuzz and the see a msg from e.g. “35436456″ – but nimbuzz does show me the equivalent icq contact. How sould I know who this number is?

    Mr.C July 15th, 2009
  47. PUSH doesn’t work AT ALL!!!!!!! I have not modify my iphone in any way and use correct provider ( in respect of resent push notificaton troubele with jailbreaked phones or so) and it doe’s work with any chats ( gmail, ICQ, Skype). Better luck next time after next update I suppose.

  49. Just got the new update with push notifications. Unfortunately push notifications are limited to 30 minutes? Why is there a limit on time? What is the use case for this limited notifications? Do you expect us to open the app every 30 minutes?

  51. I don’t want to be a drag, but why is the app limited to 30 minutes of online time?

    Thanks for the new app!

    Mark July 15th, 2009
  52. Well it’s here now… but the notifications will only work for 30 minutes.. useless if you ask me.. Have i been waiting for nothing? Will you ever support notifications for like a day?

    Chris July 15th, 2009
  53. @Mark
I noticed the same thing. Sort of upset here as well.

    @Nimbuzz
Things I have noticed so far:

    - Push Notifications: The whole point of Push notifications is so you can close the app and it will let you know when you have a message. Why put a limit on this feature.

    - User status went away. What happened? Now it just says “Online”. It would be nice to bring that back.

    - A file upload button within the chat window would be useful. Rather than going back to the list and selecting the user to send the file. Seems a bit redundant.

    - Once you go into the chat with a AOL user the screen name is at the top, not the persons name (Only tested on AOL user, may be others). For lack of confusion is it possible to have their real name carry over to the chat window? I know it’s small but this changed after the update to my observance.

Thanks a ton for this update. I look forward to the fine tuning.

    Paul July 15th, 2009
  54. 30 Minutes of Push is a useless feature.

This watch tells time. But you have to wind it every 30 minutes.

Please be honest about this limitation in the blurb on iTunes and elsewhere.

    Glyn July 15th, 2009
  55. Same question, why just 30 minutes? Personally, I’d be looking for 6 hours or more (much like the AOL app, though I’d rather have a time-of-day setup, so push is enabled from 8am to midnight every day).

But the really awesome thing with Nimbuzz and the new desktop clients… the possibility to sync online status!!! For example, if I open up the Nimbuzz app on my mac, any messages should automatically go there. However, as soon as the desktop goes idle (5 minutes, 10 minutes, whatever), everything should be forwarded via push to my iPhone. That would be, IMHO, an ideal chat solution.

    Iaian7 July 15th, 2009
  56. What the F..?

    Thank You for your Update.
    But 30 min. online limit
    Pleeeeeeease put the limiter off
    Thank You

    Stevean July 15th, 2009
  57. Sadly, the 30 minute limitation (at least give us a few hours…) makes push barely better than what we had before. The idea as I see it is to have the IM client running all day without using battery. It’s not hard to go 30 minutes without having an IM come in…

    Great idea but poorly implemented.

  59. Is push working for users, even if it is for 30 minutes max? Each time I close out the program, people on Skype see me logged off, even though push notification is on in iPhone settings (and keep online is set to 30 min).

    Yim July 16th, 2009
  60. Although the push notification seems to work. The process is a little cumbersome as it takes several seconds to login into the app and then to have the offline messages delivered. So it’s not as streamlined process as for example Black Berry messenger where the message can be read and responded to quite instantly. More over, I don’t understand why would the designers even consider that a maximum “logged in” time of 30 minutes is in any way adequate. The maximum time should at least be 24 hours.

    Emil July 16th, 2009
  61. A quick update:
you can call your buddies on yahoo alright but not window live msngr.
    Btw, I love this feature…
Picture messging cool but I like the yahoo way send and recv right from the chat

    Thanx

  63. Dear Nimbuzz Support.
Ask the developers to change the constant from 30 minutes to 24 hours.

Until that happens, please remove all references to “push notification” in your promotional material.

If a watch needs winding every thirty minutes, it’s not really a watch.

i will have some suggestions but i will post it in another post. THANKS THANKS THANKS.

@ GLYN, you know what you are wrong, my grandpa used to have a watch that actually needed a wind every half an hour, when i asked him why he keep using it he said to me that during that half an hour has no better watch in the world never let me down.

by the way eBuddy was the limitations so i think that as to do with server usage. imagine all i phone user connected at the same time always to facebook. i shure that will be a problem and some limitation have been placed to developpers. just conspiration.

all the best for all of you,
    THANKS

    Others things I’ve noticed:
    - links sent to me are no longer click-able
    - nor can I copy / paste anything within Nimbuzz.
    - auto text correction is also not working within Nimbuzz.

Why are these features deactivated. These features should run natively on the iPhone, correct?

Thanks for the good work so far. I look forward to the next update.

i actually do have a few remarks or rather feedback..

    - the ‘you’re now logged out’ sound is quite intrusive I mean I was in a quiet room and it went off I thought wt* was that just now.. The speaker cracks when I plays too.. Maybe it’s just my iPhone I don’t know

    - when a message comes in and I open nimbuzz sometimes there is no chat open.. Meaning you don’t know who sent you something or what they even sent.. (was using msn)

-when I rotate my iPhone long messages get wrapped weird displaying over the keyboard a little

    - I would like to see a popup when someone sends me a message if I’m not in nimbuzz like the ones when you get text messages something like ‘John Doe said: foo bar. click to open nimbuzz’ that way you can decide wether you want to send something back or not

I’d also lime to say that this is the best IM app I’ve found so far for the iPhone! First to have the landscape keyboard (reason not even to consider ebuddy) much more stable than palringo.. Just a few bugs and changes away from a 5* app ;)

Which Device (generation) are you using?
    Which OS are you using?
From which networks you can’t receive notifications?
Please note that the notification window only works for calls and text messages. You won’t have any window opened when you receive a chat on push notification.
This is for the simultaneous usability of tools in the device.
Please note also that you have 30 min of duration on the push notification feature. After it you will be off line.
Please let us know and we come back to you.

The window pop-up applies for calls and messages, not for chats. If you receive a chat you only receive a number on the Nimbuzz application and this is not a changeable setting. We configured this way to permit usability of other features without interruption while the push notification is on.
    Hope we could help.
    Kind regards.

    Thanks for your feedback.
The iPhone sounds for notifications can be switched off on the iPhone settings.
About messages notification you do receive a pop-up as well as for calls. You just can’t receive it for chat to keep simultaneous usability of other tools in the phone without interruption.
But we will consider the optional pop-up for chat in the future.
We will check about the MSN push notification and the message displaying and we let you know when we have any updates on this.

    Thanks for your interest.
We support the Push notification for all the communities supported by Nimbuzz, except for Skype which is not available due to specific Skype requirements.
We are studying the possibility of adding push notifications for Skype but we cannot fix a date for it to be ready yet.
    Thanks and regards!
    @Herry
Please make sure you have the 3.0 OS on your phone, also make sure you have the push notifications enabled on your iPhone settings and that you saved your login details on iTunes.
Let us know if your problem persists.
    Hope it helps!
    Cheers!

you just have to select the “stay online ” parameter to more than null

    @priscilla
I saw that your message distribution system between server, mobile phone and Computer is really good. could you implement an option that allow you to choose the main equipment (mobile phone or computer)

with tha system, why you don’t allow to stay connected more than 30 minutes ? or between two specific hour (I don’t want to recieve push notification when I m sleeping ;)

Due to technical reasons is currently not possible to stay online for more than 30 minutes while the application is on the background.
Our Team is already working in order to increase the time available to be online.

  99. Great App. I think far away its the best im app for iphone, because you guys coudl put together all the major league of social network. Its a shame you only have 30 mins of pushed, but i am hoping you are going to give us more time in a few time. I have a question for you, i dont mind right now having 30 minutes, i would love to have all day like fring or others, but ok, lets wait for your upgrade to solve that, but it would so nice, that nimbuzz tells you that your 30 min time is over, so you decide if you want to reconnect or just leave it that way, like ebuddy which it does that.

thanks for everything. keep working that way.

  102. Recently I added nimbuzz but my push notifications aren’t working at all. I can send messages to my contacts but I can’t see anything they write back. The first couple days it was working well. Now I can’t get anything!! Even the notice when my contacts writes to me it doesn’t even show up. I can’t get anything from chating and messaging!!! Someone help??

    Lee October 11th, 2009
  103. @Jörgi
We already support the push notifications feature for the iPhone/iPod with the 3.0 OS.
But the multiple protocol support, what means connection to more than one account at the same time on Nimbuzz we don’t support. We will consider it for the future improvements.
    Kind regards.

    Thanks for reporting to us.
Is it happening with an specific IM community of yours on Nimbuzz? Which?
    Which device are you using?
Do you have the push notification activated on your Nimbuzz Settings? As well as badge, alerts and sound?
We currently support 30 minutes of push notifications, so please make sure this issue is not happening after 30 minutes.
Please check it all and if after it the problem persists let us know and we will come back to you.
    Kind regards.

  113. Any status update on a Push fix? We’re in the vicinity of a month now, and Nimbuzz for iPhone is basically useless without it, since all accounts immediately go offline. Has a fix been built? Awaiting Apple? ….?

    tgb November 22nd, 2009
  114. @tgb @mrengineer
We are working in order to have the push notifications hopefully back on the next iPhone release which will occur soon.

  115. Are you going to extend the 30 mins push support? It’s really poor for the messenger utility, am actually using IM+ which offer 4 days. Hope you change that. Thanks!

    syluk December 7th, 2009

We are expecting the Push notification to be fixed in the upcoming release.
We cannot fix a date for it yet since it is still underdevelopment.

  122. Push needs to be made more permanent. 1 hour is nothing and is largely useless. I really don’t understand why only the IM vendors (AOL, Yahoo) allow semi-permanent push notifications. How am I supposed to get contacted if I have to know in advance that someone will either IM or “call” me within a 1 hour window? What use is that?

    tgb February 3rd, 2010
  123. @tgb
    Thanks for your suggestion.
Indeed we would like also to increase the time frame of Push notification, and we will work on it.

  124. is this the push solution to recently disabled buzz alert? I must say I am really unhappy and frustrated about lack of information about the disabled buzz alert!

    slanina May 13th, 2010
  125. @slanina
Yes, for some devices that support push notification and can be “notifiable” even if their are not logged in they can still be reached by their contacts.
Let us know if you have more questions

  126. Yes push has been under “development” for months and months and months now…. Since Buzz was broken / disabled (never heard what happened) the advantages to me for Nimbuzz have just steadily declined and I stopped using it. I sold my iPhone and got an Android and I see Twitter’s push works just fine. Is there any push that works on Nimbuzzz for Android?
