Facebook chat on Nimbuzz: work in progress…

Hey Nimbuzz users, just wanted to to let you know that due to some technical issues we have temporarily stopped the connectivity to Facebook via Nimbuzz.

Rest assured that we are working on this matter and we will announce the return of the Facebook functionality as soon as it is available!

Sorry for the inconvenience, we also want to chat with our Facebook friends on Nimbuzzz !

Thanks for the update – can’t wait for it to be back up. Oh and it would be brilliant if you could update your facebook status from Nimbuzz as well. Keep up the great work! So appreciate this application.

Facebook chat is the main reason I use Nimbuzz. It has been offline quite often, but since I’m not paying I guess my views can be ignored.

Thanks, for working on this. Like others, this is the only way I can do FB chat mobile….and free on top of that. Bless you for the work you are doing. My only complaint is people popping in on my mobile, and not seeing their name…just a number. Otherwise, rock on!

im using Nimbuzz on my Nokia 5800 XM for the first time…i have had the app display my online facebook contacts but now it wont,im not sure if this is a widespread problem or just me…until this problem is fixed i will continue to use palringo to facebook chat

My experience is like matty’s: I can see my contacts. I appear online to the recipent, but immidiately I appear offline and all my contacts appear offline to me.

Maybe be Ben, but xumii does load my FB friendlist just never shows anyone online nimbuzz..just tell me my username/password is incorrect…so far the best all in one im app (i have an iphone) is Im+

Hi, same to me… but everybody, the developers said, that they’re working on it. Be patient and just wait – one day, it will work. Since this is a free application, just let them have the time they need…

I am having no problems with nimbuzz apart from with facebook. For some reason facebook now will not log me out of the chat application – even when i completely remove the nimbuzz application from my phone.
This problem has only started since i downloaded the nimbuzz application about 3 or 4 weeks ago

I downloaded today, I was able to set facebook on in community settings using my username/password, but nimbuzz is not showing the online users from facebook. I was able to chat with my friends through facebook website but not from nimbuzz. all my facebook friends are always offline.. why?

Why don’t U try this :

Because U R new member so U have to invite your friends (again. Used your old username contact list.
When U use nimbuzz add facebook community with your new username.

But my wife using it on her nokia 6120c, it can work normally.

Hey i have an E71 and i have the same problem of 400 contacts. nothing more, I currently have 550 odd contacts.Moreover when i chat with the ones who are online..their reply ends up going to my main facebook page on the laptop and i recieve nothing on my phone? Woot I guess this Facebook problem haven’t solved yet. I finally get the answer why the fb contact not wokring on my new N97. I tried to connect at first it stuck at checking registration process or something like that.. now I got unknown server error.

Fring’s Facebook connections is broken as well. It seems that Facebook has made some sort of api change (for instance one that’s asking your birthdate from an “unknown” location for security reasons as it currently requires when using Opera Mini’s proxy connection) and developers of Nimbuzz or Fring haven’t found a solution for this yet.

As this is just guessing I would also like to hear the official reason from Nimbuzz developers.

I have now downloaded a app called xumii – there link between facebook and there app isnt broken. To get facebook on my phone i had to use a real computer to confirm the details on the facebook site. Maybe Nimbuzz will have to talk with Facebook directly and become a partner of something? The Xumii app is incredibly slow and a real pain to get to grips with. I do hope that Nimbuzz gets this sorted asap.

Ah, good, you’ve identified the issue – i was getting a bit worried that you’d dropped facebook support completely.

Do you have an estimated time frame as i found that facebook worked reasonably well on my (vodafone) nokia 5800xm (for the week i was able to use nimbuzz – the only thing that didn’t seem to work was offline contacts, which i wasn’t fussed about anyway) and i want to get chatting with fb contacts again.

Oh, and keep up the good work – the fb interface is a lot better than fring’s, actually the whole interface is a lot better – although i think the phonebook is a bit pointless (if i want to phone a non SIP number, i’ll use the phone’s phonebook).

Nimbuzz support can you please address this:
I can now see the Facebook icon in the communities screen, and I can register with facebook on Nimbuzz. However, I then receive a chat message saying “For your security Facebook needs ot verify your account. To confirm that this is your account please enter the birthday you used when signing up for facebook (format: mm/dd/yyyy)”
However, there is no option or screen on which to enter birth date? What is going on here? Am I missing something?

it seem that everytime you close nimbuzz and open it up again, you have to deactivate facebook and then activate again so that the online contact from facebook will be show.. otherwise the facebook contact is in number and offline..

PLEASE HELP!

There is no way around this error. I tried entering DOB directly into my Nimbuzz profile, as there was no option to respond to the request for DOB.

Can Nimbuzz support please address this.

The fact that the application is asking you for a confirmation may well be due to the privacy settings.

We are currently facing some stability issues with this gateway and we are working in order to have it fixed soon.

Well, about a week ago i was able to see my fb online contacts on the E71, but not anymore! The account is activated but contacts dont load. Iv now decided to switch to Palringo though its UI is not as friendly as Nimbuzz’s. Whats up with Nimbuzz? Other chat apps except fring seem to be working fine with FB!

Just to let you know (i know you guys are working on it),I can’t fill in the date, can’t press the send button on desktop and mobile version.

I really love nimbuzz allot, it is a nice and clean application, but at the moment you are forcing me to use another mobile application to connect with facebook. I hope you fix this as soon as possible or you might loose some clients.

Thanks Nimbuzz team… fb connection is reactivated…. just one thing… I’m using e71.. and when (sometimes) the connection is off and reconnected… the fb contacts are not shown on the list… so I have to log off and log in again… then the fb contacts are shown…

What kind of response is that? Of course it is to do with privacy settings.

When will this be working? I fail to see why all these issues are occurring.

1. Half the time Nimbuzz will freeze on the welcome screen.
2. There is no reliability with any of the gateways, Yahoo, MSN, Gtalk, Jabber.
3. Facebook IM has never worked.

This is totally ridiculous.

@Daniel, what is Palringo? Does anyone else know of any clients for the blackberry bold which will allow me to contact my facebook contacts.

AND WHY DO I HAVE TO SIGN INTO FACEBOOK EVERY TIME I LEAVE A MESSAGE ON THIS BLOG? SIGNING IN JUST DELETES MY MESSAGE.

okai .. facebook started workin for me .. but its not working again none of my facebook contacts are showing up. Can someone tell me how to upgrade to teh new version?
Like, When you log in nimbuzz it says “do u wanna download the latest version of nimbuzz?” but i tried doing that and it jus overwrites the same version…???

Facebook is now working perfectly for me! A few other issues were also fixed it seems, because all contacts now have names. (Previously people who I hadn’t seen online were just a number) Also profile picture loading seem to be faster.

A question: Would it be possible to make it display my contact’s Facebook status as their status in Nimbuzz? Right now Facebook contacts have no status in Nimbuzz.
Just a thought.

On a different issue, Yahoo! and Gadu-Gadu occasionally display an error message (not at the same time) saying that I was disconnected and you are going to fix it. It happened today for Yahoo, but it only happens once every now and again.
Just thought you might like to know. It’s not a big deal because I don’t use those communities much.

And now for a suggestion/question: Is is possible to run Nimbuzz on my mobile/PC simultaneously and for them both to work correctly? (i.e. chats appear in both) Or do they interfere? It would be a nice feature, because I generally keep Nimbuzz running on my phone most of the time, and when I’m at the computer I always close it on my phone before starting it up on the PC in case it causes problems. But it would be easier for me to run both at once. Just an idea.

And why won’t Nimbuzz PC show Skype contacts?

Oh, and I’m using Nimbuzz on my Nokia E51 and PC. Sorry for writing such a long message!

About being disconnected from a community (yahoo or Gadu-Gadu) it could sometimes due to some internal upgrades or other issues.

Please feel free to report this issue if it seems to appear often, and let us know yoru Nimbuzz id and the date/time when you last faced that issue

About being connected on PC and Mobile simultaneously, it is possible, but you will receive the chat messages in just one client, usually they come to the Mobile except if you appear “busy” on Mobile when they will appear on PC.

Skype is supported on Nimbuzz Mobile but not on Nimbuzz for PC (both MAC and Windows) and due to technical reasons this won’t change in the near future.

We have had some stability issues in the past, but they have been solved.
Please inform us if you are still experiencing issues with this community.

There were some issues related to the Facebook community during the last month.
They have been solved now.
In some cases, users (like you) will be asked to verify their account, it is just a privacy setting from Facebook itself.
You just need to introduce the birthdate you have registered, if you get the message, press send and after that your Facebook contact list will load in a few seconds as normally.

First of all congrats for the functionalities of Nimbuzz. Really well ahead of Fring and that’s why I switched!
I am also experiencing issues with FB, for the past 3-4 days it use to ask me for date of birth and to confirm email and password, however despite all this I still cannot connect and use the FB account….

This facebook’s stability issue has been on-going for a long while already. What’s really going on?

Can we also have a better monitoring system? If the facebook gateway isn’t working, can Nimbuzz support announce it proactively? You shouldn’t use your users as your monitoring system.

This pop – up window is the Facebook verification for the authenticity of your account. If you fill in the window with your birth date and correct username and password you should be able to login. Please check if you are able to login to your Facebook account itself with the same account details you are entering on the pop – up window on Nimbuzz.

Check it and let us know in case your problem persists.

Once you have introduced the birthdate that you have registered on your Facebook account and press send, you should be abel to see and chat with your Facebook contacts.

The birth date confirmation appears randomly when you try to connect to your Facebook on Nimbuzz. Please try to connect your Facebook on Nimbuzz again checking the exact data you are connecting and the capital and low case letters.

tried with nimbuzz from the web, with mac client and iphone client. couldn’t log to facebook with any of them.
the birthdate question popped up out of nowhere while trying to do the same with ebuddy from the web. never popped up on nimbuzz. I think I tried tons of times now.
I would reeeeeally love to use nimbuzz on any system I have, but this facebook issue is driving me mad!

Do you get any error message when trying to register your Facebook account?

I am glad to inform you that this morning, after having spent the whole evening trying to log in to FB from nimbuzz without any success, I just launched the application and all the FB contacts were simply there.

what happened yesterday, both from the iphone and the mac, was that the application stood there like forever, trying to validate my FB account, until I just cancelled the operation and tried again.

now I find it just works (I didn’t even have to try to validate the account again).

the behaviour makes me think it’s more a facebook’s think than nimbuzz. I am pretty aware they change things under the hood on an almost daily-basis, meaning that you never know what can happen anytime! this sounds like a pretty unconfortable pain in the arse for somebody trying to develop a chat client like yours.

whatever, now I am happy. thanks a lot for your creature.

We are glad to know that the application works fine and properly for you!
Indeed the birth/date validation comes from Facebook, not from Nimbuzz, but we have to adapt to their changes as well in order to let our users connect to their accounts via Nimbuzz.

I am using nokia 6110 Navigator in ma phone nimbuzz works smoothly but facebook is a big problem i can sign in perfectly on facebook but its not getting connected on nimbuz always asks fo security question after entering date of birth gives an error wrong username/password combination help me out with this.

Sometimes while registering to Facebook, you will be request to introduce your birthdate as a verification of your account.
You just have to introduce your birthdate with the same format you did on your Facebook account settings and few seconds after your Facebook contact list will appear.

It’s quite suspicious for me when a chat opens up and asks for your birth date. Anyway i typed it in but could not send the message back to facebook. Also leaving my birth date in the nimbuzz account settings did not work.

Another thing for me would be to have my skype contacts in nimbuzz (not mobile) and to have a client for linux. Until now i got it working using WINE. Works quite well for me.

Despite this, i appreciate your work. Keep on the good work.

We do not officially Support Linux, we are considering having a Linux version in the future.
ABout Skype, due to some technical restrictions we do not support SKype on Nimbuzz for PC, but we do on Nimbuzz for Mobile.
In regards of the Facebook account verification, this message is required by Facebook itself.
Were you not able to send that information? Or did you press send and nothing happened?

@Support: facebook validation is working now. Was my fault, inserted a wrong birth date.

But i as well as many other linux user i think will appreciate a linux client and in general a pc client supporting skype as well. I’d like to have one client supporting different IM protocols….could be nimbuzz

Why I can’t load all my contacts on facebook. Nimbuzz loads only 400 contacts and can’t load the rest. Although they can write to me when I am online, but then i see them with numbers and can’t see who i am talking to.

Did you change your Facebook password recently?
Always remember that once you have it changed on Facebook you need to have it changed on Nimbuzz Settings as well.
Please check it on Nimbuzz Setting > Communities > Facebook > disconnect > new login details> Connect
Please try it and let us know in case your problem persists.

We are aware of the limit of 400 Facebook supported contacts per user and also although the rest is not shown they are still able to chat with you.
We are working in order to extend this number in the future but unfortunately we have no fixed date for it to be ready yet.

Hi my FB contacts are Showing on my list but they do not apear as online Even if they are online. I signed into nimbuzz and noticed that none of my facebook contacts are appearing as online so I actually sighned into facebook and cheuqed if all my contacts were actually offline but they were not. There were people online but they were not appearing as online on nimbuzz. Why is this happening? Thanks

Could you let us know if your default status is set as Offline when you login directly on Facebook?
If yes, you won’t be able to see your contacts as online.

It doesn’t matter the format (american,European), inputting the correct date (doublechecked with FB) pops up the error message
“You entered the wrong information, please make sure you enter the birthdate you use on Facebook in this format – mm/dd/yyyy. ”
Tried to input the info on mobile, but also via web with the same results

Nothing I do will make the facebook authenticate on my mobile nimbuzz. It works fine for everything else but when i try facebook and go to the birthdate authentication part nothing works. It is the correct date I am sure of this and i am aware that the month comes first but it just will not accept it and keeps telling me I have entered incorrect information when I know for a fact that I haven’t. This is very very frustrating and I have tried it many times. I am almost at the point of trying to find another program that will support the facebook chat .

I’m experiencing the same issue for DOB problem through the Authentication for Facebook. All of the upper complainer are so right and must have used the Facebook email id rather than the FB assigned id. You guys have already experienced some internal threaded issues with FB interface in past and now here’s new issue cropped up. This a the app problem of recognizing the Date Of Birth format because it ask for mm/dd/yyyy but in facebook it’s embedded as mm(JAN)/dd/yyyy so the first table entry is corrupted or has been changed while resolving the last/recent problem. In that case I would open a ticket with FB app Interface department to escalate the issue rather than going nuts with other departments!

I appreciate your hard-work and efforts for provide the best tools to connecting people across the world. I’ve just shared my App Analyst experience from the perspective of an App Tester of Health care IT dept. Thanks in advance.

Same issue here. When I enter the user dob, it says its wrong. But when its entered in mm/dd/yy format, it actually accepts and then says incorrect user and password. Not sure whats the issue.

Facebook keeps asking for my birthdate, just like you are all saying above.
I installed this app on Thursday on my 5800. I also installed it on my friends 5800 the next day and it worked!

Not sure what the problem could be.
Ive tried all variations of dates, so without slashes, with backward slashes, no slashes etc…and still does not work!

Please can support team fix this bug so I can properly advocate this service to my friends!!

i hav the same problem with the birthdate, but i thought i might not of actually needed to verify my facebook when i first set it up so i typed in 00/00/0000 and it quickly replied- The information you entered has been sent to Facebook. but then straight after that message its says- Facebook does not recognise the provided information. im trying hard to login facebook with nimbuzz too,it still have birthday problem too,but i use a tricky way to solve that problem and you know its works:)…,just login in nimbuzz in your mobile until you get a respond message from facebook (enter your birthday….) follow the instruction,berofe you enter the chat respond,use your desktop browser and open other im vendor (beejive), open http://www.beejive.com/facebook and enter your birthday’s facebook date, then in a same time enter your nimbuzz chat in your mobile,if you have a right time..your nibuzz will works fine:)
