We all know that Social Media is taking over our computers, but can you connect and update your friends straight from your mobile phone? Lets see what Mobile Jorge suggests:
Social Media has become a viral phenomenon everyone is participating in this new social trend and Symbian is at its forefront. The Symbian operating system is so versatile that it can accommodate just about everyone’s taste from mobile chatting via my favorite instant messaging client Nimbuzz to Tweeting, Facebook and off course everyone favorite online photography storage – Flickr. One may say, “How social can one be,” well as social as you want to be, either way Symbian’s got your back.
Let’s take you guys through a typical day; they say that people learn by example so here we go. As a well communicated blogger I’m always on Twitter an luckily Symbian has many options to satisfy to but I depend on only one application it’s called Gravity by a famous German developer called Jan Ole Suhr. Gravity has all the options that are important to take advantage of Twitter. Let’s highlight some of my favorites:
- ReTweeting
- Direct Messaging
- Favorites
- Multiple account support including Identi.ca, Facebook, and off course Twitter
- Imaging support via Twitpic, Mobypictures, Posterous
- Saving and sending via Instapaper
- Follow/Unfollow
Well as you see its pretty complete and enough to keep you busy as can be, so after I load up Gravity I immediately switch to another screen and open up Nimbuzz where my mobile chatting becomes alive especially since Nimbuzz now offers Facebook chatting and oh it so so so sweet to be able to interact socially with all my contacts on command. C’mon just think about it, you’re going mobile and all of a sudden you can communicate with friends near and far. I have friends in every continent and I rely only Nimbuzz to carry me through my digital conversations. Here are some of my favorites features of Nimbuz:
- Picture/Video/Voice messaging
- Facebook Chatting
- Group chatting – this one is so cool I highly recommend it
- Skype
- Google Talk
- MSN Messenger
- And my favorite One login for everything, it’s such a time saver
Now as we all know Symbian devices especially Nokia’s are world famous for their photographic capabilities especially the Nseries with devices such as the Nokia N95 8GB and most recently the Nokia N97 which are equipped with the ultimate cameras 5 megapixels by Carl Zeiss. So imagine being mobile and Tweeting and chatting via Nimbuzz is only part of the equation in the age of Social Media you want to share your visual content and Nokia Smartphones are always up to the task. So to share my mobile photographic masterpieces I use an application called Shozu which uploads your media either pictures or video to a plethora of Social Media sites but my defacto online depository home for my pictures is Flickr and You-Tube for video.
So tying all the application together is easy with Symbian because they all handle multi-tasking very easily so I often Tweet, Chat and upload to Shozu all at the same time. I hope this gives you several ideas as to how you can practice Social Media on your Symbian device.
