Whilst at Nokia World 2009, and walking around the Nokia Experience Lounge, I was amazed at the amount of Nokia Accessories, Services, and future technologies there were, from never heard of small bluetooth headsets, to 3D display devices that you can view in 3D without having to wear any special glasses.
One thing that caught my attention however was the new Nokia BH-905 Bluetooth Stereo Headset, which was announced earlier this year, but only went on sale recently.
These are no normal Bluetooth headset though, they feature some of the very latest Noise Cancelling technologies, and boast eight microphones, and are the very first Bluetooth headset from Nokia to feature this latest tech.
You could be mistaken by looking at them in a photo, and thinking they are the same size as the Nokia BH-604 Bluetooth headset, but in actual fact, they are a lot smaller, and don’t actually fit over, and around your ear’s like the BH-604′s, but fit onto the face of your ear.
Now what is special about these BH-905′s, I will try and explain.
Imagine yourself, and a friend, both with these headphones in the crowd at a very noisy, and loud football match, with the crowds around you all cheering, shouting, and screaming. Now, in this environment, you now put on your Nokia BH-905 headset, so does your friend, you both switch the headsets on, and activate the Noise Cancelling feature. Now, both of you will not hear a single thing; the noisy environment you are sitting in becomes something of a surreal feeling.
The fun doesn’t stop there though. You can now, whilst facing your friend, who is also wearing a pair of Nokia BH-905′s, start talking, no need to shout, you and your friend, can now hold a conversation, and both hear each another as though you were both sitting in a quiet room together. This is down to more technology goodness, and the ten inbuilt microphones the BH-905 headset have placed in unique positions. Two microphones for one to one speech, with another eight for noise cancellation.
Ok, hopefully my explanation above helped describe what these superb headsets are capable of. I had a play with a couple of pairs of these whilst at Nokia World, and the Nokia World party, where I put them to the test myself. At the Nokia World Party for example, I was in a very loud narrow room, with a disco competition at one end of the room, and at the other end, a Dance fabulous competition. As you can imagine, the music was quite loud, but as soon as I put on the Bh-905′s, and switch them on, the room became silent. As mentioned earlier, the feeling is quite surreal, and has to be experienced to be appreciated.
The BH-905 headset is built from premier materials, and does not feel cheap in any way, with brushed aluminum, chromed finish, and real leather, these headphones are built to last, and they come in a protective zipped case with a number of accessories, including jack plugs, and various tips, this is because these headphones can also be hard wired to your music device too.
Below is the Official Press Release for the Nokia BH-905′s, and a few photos I grabbed of them at Nokia World this year.
“The overall music experience with this new headset is second to none thanks to the revolutionary noise cancellation technology. The headset is set apart also through the ability to make phone calls, as switching between music and calls has been made easy with integrated call control”, said Jarno Piironen, Director, Entertainment Business Area, Nokia Original Accessories. “People living in urban areas are surrounded by noise practically everywhere and silence has almost become a luxury.
We believe this headset fulfills the highest standards for providing high quality music enjoyment and phone calls and also give the luxury of silence when needing an environment to relax.”
Technically the noise cancellation is solved with a total of 10.
microphones: 8 microphones for canceling noise and 2 microphones for capturing speech in loud surroundings offering advanced noise cancellation for clear sounding phone calls.
The design is simplified to its extreme, ensuring that its functionality is not compromised. Details made of stainless steel ensure a quality and precious look through time and soft ear pads provide comfort.
The headset features a dedicated multifunction key for call management, as well as music and volume controls, and a switch for activating the active noise cancellation.
It is compatible with a wide variety of devices. Wirelessly with any device supporting wireless Bluetooth technology, and with wired connection with all Nokia devices with 3.5 mm Nokia AV and 2.5 mm Nokia AV, music players, PCs and other devices with standard 3.5mm jack, home stereos with standard 6.3 mm jack as well as airplane players.
The headset will be available globally starting August, 2009. The estimated retail price before taxes and subsidies is around EUR 285.
