Nimbuzz Poll results: 46% of people use SIP(VoIP) calling to reach families and friends abroad

SIP/VoIP calling stats

Results are in from the latest Nimbuzz blog poll (see question and results above). Thank you for your time and for your votes!

The results show that 46% of you use VoIP/SIP to connect with families and friends abroad, while 31% use it to call people from your home country. Also 14% call home while abroad and 9% use it to reach business contacts.

SIP/VoIP makes it easy for everyone to call abroad more cheaply, and we also have some interesting numbers to back this up:  last year, Skype, one of the biggest VoIP players in this space, was the largest provider of international phone calls in the world. Competing against some of the biggest mobile operators in the world, Skype achieved something extraordinary by opening a new road to all the other providers.

For a long time we have relied on operators to make international calls and and to set the fees we need to pay. We had limited options and choice but VoIP is redefining our possibilities.

A fixed telephone line no longer implies that you have a standard operator. Thanks to the internet, a fixed telephone can be a SIP phone as well  and you can choose your provider from a list of hundreds of  international SIP providers. The same goes for the mobile phones – with a standard internet connection or roaming over free Wi-Fi, you can benefit from free and uber cheap calls using Nimbuzz.

Now you can call all your friends for free, anywhere in the world, using Nimbuzz on your mobile. You can also call landlines and mobile phones all over the world using our SkypeOut integrated solution or one of our SIP partners.

  1. Nice new poll: “I wish Nimbuzz would support”. Why there are a difference between Nokia Maemo and Linux if the first one is a Linux distro? I mean, if you develop Nimbuzz for Linux you develop for all distros.
    I’m wrong?

We currently do not support Linux clients either the new Maemo device.
we are considering to support this device in the future.

  5. How could be possible? Did you fix the problem with the audio? I have a Nokia E71 and sometimes the other party can hear me, but sometimes cannot hear me… :(

I really like Nimbuzz, it’s a good software, but because of that, I have the SIP channel disabled and I still maintain a copy of Fring running only for my SIP account. I really hate Fring (hangs my cellphone sometimes), so help me to uninstall this piece of cr^H^Hsoftware that doesn’t like me :(

If you are doing a SIP call and you are experiencing problems with the audio, this could be due to:
-SIP provider networks: We do not proxy SIP Voice Streams, which means that Nimbuzz just connect s you to the Sip server and the audio and voice connection is managed by your SIP provider.
If you have this kind of issues, please contact your SIP Support Team and let them know .
-Weak internet connection: if there is a weak connection, could as consequence cause problems on the audio.
Let us know if you have more questions.

Currently VoIP services are blocked in UAE, which means that Nimbuzz and some similar services probably won’t work.

If you are able to connect on Nimbuzz but the SIP calls are not aconnected or the audio has not good quality, we recommend you to check directly with your SIP provider.

We do not proxy SIP Voice Streams, which means that Nimbuzz just connect s you to the Sip server and the audio and voice connection is managed by your SIP provider.

Please contact your SIP Support Team and let them know .

  9. My friend has a Sony Ericsson P1 mobile phone, but there’s no “call” feature on the installed Nimbuzz. Why? Is the “call” feature only available in certain mobile phones? Do you have a list of them, if any?

    Kiko October 21st, 2009
  10. @Kiko
We currently do not support VOIP calling on Nimbuzz Mobile for Java devices like yours. This is not a Nimbuzz limitation but the device’s which does not have enough power to support internet calling. We will be pleased to implement it as soon as this limitation is solved.

Before, you were able to call to buddies because you were using the Dial up calling (non VOIP calling) which connects you to your buddy subject to your operator charges.
We disabled this feature to come up with an improved solution in the near future.

Please let us know if you have more questions.

    Kind Regards

Currently we do not proxy SIP Voice Streams, which means that Nimbuzz just connects you to the Sip server and the audio and voice connection is managed by your SIP provider.

To get the proper SIP configuration or for any doubts about the call connection we recommend you to contact your SIP provider team and they will be able to assist you.

Let us know if you have nay other question.

  17. I am using Nokia 2600 classic.I tried to download Nimbuzz (link from sms) but ‘file too large’ message got eventhough it has enough memory (more free momory for application required?). Voip call possible using this mobile?

    Dev November 25th, 2009
  18. @Dev
If you get “not enough memory” as an error, this might be cause some devices like yours sometimes do not have enough memory to run or support Nimbuzz application.

That’s why we have a lite version for some devices, in the lite version you can chat with your buddies but the chatroom feature is not available and the call feature also not.

If the lite version does not work for your device, we recommend you to use the Wap version http://www.wap.nimbuzz.com

Let us know if you have more questions.

    Regards

  25. the same audio problem here also.. i will tell u one thing, while using the pc client its working fine but the only problem with mobile client, so there is no problem with the sip provider side, u must check in ur mobile client to get proper connection via sip.

    RAVI January 15th, 2010
  26. @Ravi
If you have sound/audio issues when in a SIP call, we recommend you to check with your SIP provider, since we do not manage your sound streams.
Most likely if you are able to place calls using PC but not on Mobile, the issue might be caused by your network or type of connection.
