Google Maps Navigation: the Android’s killer app?!

Without a doubt this has been an Android week so far!

First the launch of the new Droid phone from Verizon; now the announcement of the Google Maps GPS navigation app – everybody is hyped to find out more info about this hot news! How important were the announcements?  Looking at the share price for Garmin and TomTom, we can see that the new Android-powered free navigation software is already making a difference and could be a “game changer”.

Before announcing the winner we would like to thank you all for taking the Nimbuzz survey. The response rate was awesome and we have learned a lot about what you think of Nimbuzz and how we can make it even better. Thanks!

As promised we have picked a winner as soon as possible: her name is Elisabeth Briganti and and she is from Italy!

We hope Elisabeth will send us a picture with herself and the brand new iPhone 3GS as soon as she gets it.

Windows 7 Officially released

Today is the big day for Microsoft – the long-awaited Windows 7 is finally released into the wild!  So far the operating system has received great reviews around the web. Amazon even said that Windows 7 is bigger than Harry Potter, so things are looking bright for them ;) .

Here at Nimbuzz we were so enthusiastic about Windows 7, that back in May we were among the  first to download and test the Release Candidate 1.

Now, 8 months later, it’s ready to go and we’ve had lots of time to test Nimbuzz for PC on W7 and make sure it works really well!

Android e-readers could support mobile chat and VoIP!

Mobile Chat and VoIP on E reader

Yesterday I was reading that the Barnes & Noble Nook dual-screen e-reader is now official.

Hmm, this sounds interesting! Well … it gets even more interesting and relevant to Nimbuzz since the new e-reader is built on Android O.S., so it should run Android apps natively, turning the Nook into more of a computing device than a standalone reader.

I’m not familiar with the restrictions of the operating system on the e-reader but it would be great to install Nimbuzz on one of these. Imagine, when you take a break from reading your favorite book or daily news you can have a quick chat with your friends :D .

Finland: 1Mb Broadband Access Becomes Legal Right

Well, this is good news! Starting next July 2010, Finland’s Ministry of Transport and Communications will make sure that every person in Finland has access to a one-megabit broadband connection!

But that’s not all: this small but very ambitious country with a population of only  5.3million people, aims to make 100Mb broadband connection a legal right by the end of 2015. Woah!! Imagine that. (more…)
