Connect on BlackBerry - Nimbuzz

Last night at the BlackBerry EMEA Alliance Summit 2009 in Rome, our colleague Rutger Coolen (pictured in the middle :D ) was honored to collect the Connect On BlackBerry award on behalf of everyone at Nimbuzz.

It’s a great honor for Nimbuzz to be recognized as the most innovative application in the Connect On BlackBerry category by such an experienced jury and Research In Motion (RIM), one of the world’s leading creators of innovative wireless solutions.

Here’s what Tyler Lessard, Vice President of Global Alliances at RIM, had to say:

The EMEA Innovation Awards celebrates the success of our partners who are developing creative and compelling applications and services for the BlackBerry platform. The winners of this year’s awards demonstrated particular innovation in their respective categories.”

Nimbuzz enables BlackBerry smartphone users to enjoy free instant messaging, social networking and other rich communication features.  Last night’s award confirms  Nimbuzz as the best app for instant messaging and social networking for BlackBerry handsets. You can get the free download of Nimbuzz for BlackBerry here.

  8. The guys at Rim shouldn’t be apprensive about allowing Nimabuzz to communicate with their IM system. They will have an even greater appeal to their consumer. The guys at Nimbuzz shouldn’t waste time about adding the Blackberry IM system to their’s. It would become a blockbuster.

The VoIP calling feature is not included in the BlackBerry version due to some device limitations.

  11. Will VoIP be added for the latest BB Storm2 mobile? Is there still a device limitation and if so, please can you tell me what this limitation is. Is there an alternative for VoIP on the BB?

Ronald de Vries November 30th, 2009
  12. @Besucher
Removing contacts is currently available for Nimbuzz contacts.
If you want to remove contacts from other communities won’t be possible, you will have to do that directly from the IM client itself.
Let us know if you have more questions.

    queralt escrich November 30th, 2009
  13. @Ronald
We actually do not support VOIP calling on Nimbuzz Mobile for Blackberry devices like yours. This is not a Nimbuzz limitation but the device’s which does not have enough power to support internet calling, and for this reason unfortunately we can’t implement it.
We are working in order to have a possible alternative for BlackBerry users in the future.
Please let us know if you have more questions!

  21. Congratullations people!!! this is a pretty good app, however I think you’re really missing the VoIP feature, for all the other services RIM has a dedicated app for all of the other IM services, the only reason why I downloaded it, was because I checked the VoIP option on a Nokia service. And btw, if you say it is not possible to do VoIP on a blackberry, what is this post talking about??? http://www.blackberrycool.com/2009/06/24/voip-calling-for-blackberry-without-3g-or-wifi-from-nimbuzz/
    happy holidays people

  24. I’m running on sofware V4.6 but when downloaded from .getjar it shows nimbuzz v1.1.0 and not 2.x.x. Anyway where i can get the latest release? My set is BB curve 8900.

    Andrew December 26th, 2009
  25. Congratulations. About the BB limitations for Skype calls, is it the fact I read about that you can’t record and play audio at the same time?
What about a walkie-talkie version, like nextel, where when you press a button you talk, and otherwise you listen? This would already be a must have!

  29. I love this app but when I realised that the BB suxx so hard as to not be able to run calls even over wifi… I’m devastated. I wanna sack my BB for a phone that can use nimbuzz to it full glorious potential. RIM u need to work it out! BB messenger needs to be supported on this app atleast!

    Satori January 16th, 2010
  30. @Satori
We are researching the possibilities of offering a workaround for this issue and be able to provide calling to BB users in the future.

Do you have the option, “do not show contacts offline” enabled?
Maybe if your contacts are offline, that’s why you cannot see them?
Or are you saying that not all your Online are showing?
Could you let us know how many contacts do you have in total and how many are you abel to see?
Which Nimbuzz version are you using?
Since when are you experiencing this issue?
