Over 2 Billion mobile subscribers in BRIC by 2014
eMarketer released a new interesting report on the growth of mobile subscribers in BRIC countries (Brazil / Russia / India / China). According to their analysis by 2014 BRIC will have over 2Billion mobile subscribers. Pretty amazing, right?
To put that in context: there will be more mobile Internet users in China in 2010 than the entire population of the US.
- Over 200 million mobile subscribers in both Brazil and Russia by 2014
- 853 million subscribers in India by 2014
- 1.3 billion (yes billion) subscribers and 957 million mobile Internet users in China by 2014
Interesting is that now most of mobile manufactures are focusing on getting the popular smartphone features on cheaper devices which can be sold in the growing economies like China, India, Brazil and Russia. This will reshape the mobile apps landscape as we also mentioned here: Trends and predictions – Worldwide smartphone application market and as more information comes in from different sources we can see that one prediction confirms the other.
So far we have spotted Nokia with the Nokia C5 , HTC and Google with Nexus One and Dell with Dell Mini 3 adapting their mobiles to respond the demand of the growing economies.
With the growth of mobile subscribers around the world and with cheaper sophisticated mobiles available for everybody , more and more people will have access to useful mobile applications. That’s why in my opinion apps like Nimbuzz, Facebook, Layar, Shazam, Forsquare will become a must have on any mobile phone around the world and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the operators or mobile manufactures will choose to pre-install these apps on their phones. This would be a win-win action for both sides users and operators.
