The Next Web 2010: Take aways

The Next Web

More pictures from The Next Web conference

Hello all, I just got back from The Next Web conference in Amsterdam and I can tell you it was great! Nice people, cool gadgets (lots of iPads around :P ), great business ideas, very interesting topics and especially a great spirit.

If I would have to list the 3 best things I got from this event, those would be:

  1. Spirit (the most important thing): After you see so many cool new ideas, so many people trying new things and discussing business opportunities you will definitely say: I can do it. You will get out that door with new targets,  higher expectations and a lot positive energy.
  2. Networking: This was a great chance to meet new people and  the guys who write on the biggest tech blogs, which I follow on a daily basis.  Today I got the chance to meet Robin and Mike from TC, some cool guys from Nokia’s OVI store, the brains behind Prey Project and many others.
  3. Social Aggregation is the present and the future! Starting with Microsoft that introduced a nifty new concept of Social feed aggregation and continuing with small start-ups that bring email and social inbox aggregation, everybody there agreed on the fact that this is something extremely important.

Nexus One landing in Europe in May!

April 27th, 2010

Google Nexus One Europe

Awesome news everybody, Google’s Nexus One will land in Europe sometime during the following 35 days. Vodafone announces that it will start selling Nexus One from Google directly through its stores and online in the UK from 30 April and in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and in France through SFR during May. [Vodafone UK press release]

A few weeks ago I had the chance to play with it for a while and I loved it. It’s super fast, with a great UI (love the live backgrounds) and a great social networking tool, thanks to it’s App rich Android Market. The mobile comes  out of the box with some really useful tools like: a YouTube app, Google maps and Google Goggles.

If you get your hands on one of these beauties here are some recommended apps for the Nexus One:

iPad Alternatives

April 26th, 2010

apple-ipad-frontOf course we all got excited when the new iPad finally hit the streets and we got a chance to play with it after so much waiting. But now, a natural question comes to mind: What else is/will be there? What are the iPad alternatives?

Looking around I found some really interesting concepts. Although not yet available fore sale, these are coming soon and they pack some pretty cool features. And since the iPad launch outside US was delayed until the end of May[more info] the alternatives below might be more interesting for some of us, especially since some are already complaining about the new device.

iPhone 4G HD – specs, images and movie

April 22nd, 2010

iPhone 4G official

We have followed the story behind the unexpected, and some might say suspicious, appearance of the iPhone 4G HD prototype (if this will actually be the name) with great excitement.  After long debates all over the web if it’s the real deal or just a great fake, it seems  that after GIZMODO received an official letter from Apple, the web has decided: we have indeed seen the real upcoming iPhone 4G HD.

And it looks great! Here at Nimbuzz we are super excited to see the pictures, a demo video and find out what new features that are packed under the slick edgy design.

Though it looks different than its predecessors, the new iPhone fits better the design and concept of the Apple products. By losing all the flashy things like the seamless rim, the tapered & curved surfaces as well as the single volume button, the new iPhone goes back to the simplicity of the iMac and the iPad. Comparing the straight edges of the new device with the ones of an iPad you will see that it makes a lot of sense.

So here are the specs of the new iPhone 4G:

The Best HTC mobile is..

April 21st, 2010

Htc on Facebook

the one you name yourself :P .

I don’t know about you,  but I love to contribute to cutting edge technology, even if it’s just by naming a new super exciting HTC mobile phone :D .

Thanks to the guys over at @TNW I found out that HTC are asking their Facebook fans to help them come up with a name for one of their new mobiles. They have created a Poll in one of their page tabs where we are invited to choose one of the 4 proposed names. The most voted name so far (which I also like best) is Wildfire, which collected 49%  of the total votes so far!

This is the second type of community involvement we have covered here on the Nimbuzz blog, the first being “Designed by Community” campaign launched by Nokia a few weeks ago.  Although not as big as Nokia’s campaign, which tries to establish the features of your ideal mobile phone, we like the fact that HTC involves the community in their creation process. We are also big fans of these kind of actions as you might recall the Nimbuzz Emoticontest :D !

Why do we choose to write about it?

New low-cost messaging phones – Nokia C3, C6 and E5

April 20th, 2010

nokia c3-c6-e5

Following Nokia C5, which we covered a few weeks ago on the blog, the giant mobile manufacturer comes back with 3 new mobiles that have the same style and concept as the first one:  Simple, Social, Affordable.

The three new phones focus on maintaining social connections with a low price point. C3, C6 and E5 are each equipped with a full  QWERTY keyboard which will enable the users to email and chat faster than on any other S40 device.  Also all the devices have the ability to support up to ten email accounts and download thousands of  applications from Nokia’s Ovi store. The new mobiles are designed to fit the needs of the growing economies and to raise Ovi’s download rate from 1.6 Million apps per day to point where it can compete with the App Store.

Below you can see the specs of each mobile and the presentation clip:
