The best mobile phone – “Design by Community “

SNAG-0254Nokia came up with brilliant idea in my opinion. They have involved all their fans to design the best mobile phone around.

Here is how they present the idea on the Official Nokia Blog, Nokia Conversations:

Design by Community is capturing the collective thoughts of Conversations readers to define the ultimate concept mobile device. To avoid creating some kind of unwieldy beast, we’ve created a series of steps and every week, we’ll put new variables to the public vote. Once the product specs have been defined, we’ll get Nokia’s design team to turn them into a series of concept sketches which you can vote for. The winner will be turned into a design concept render and revealed exclusively on Conversations in May.

So, the idea is pretty simple. There are 6 stages, and for 6 of them the readers are invited to vote the best combination of features. I already picked my favorites :D ! Did you?

Bellow is the schedule of all 9 stages:

  • March 15 Display and UI
  • March 22 – Size and shape
  • March 29 – Materials
  • April 5 – Operating system
  • April 12 – Connectivity
  • April 19 – Camera
  • April 26 – Enhancements
  • May – Design concept sketches
  • May – Design render

On top of that they are giving us the chance to name the concept device :D (more info here)

Here at Nimbuzz we support innovation and we appreciate a lot user feedback, and for that we believe that the “Designed by community” project could be a great success.

Also we are pretty curios to see how Nimbuzz will run on the future concept phone.  The 1M downloads from Nokia’s OVI store and the  “Must Have Social Networking app of the year” Ovi award predict Nimbuzz will be the best app for new concept phone :D !

  2. I use Nimbuzz on both iPhone and iPod Touch. I would like to see better integration with the built-in Contacts much as Whatsapp does, or Adium with the Mac’s Address Book, for instance, to show the user-selected photograph for each contact.
