iPad Alternatives

apple-ipad-frontOf course we all got excited when the new iPad finally hit the streets and we got a chance to play with it after so much waiting. But now, a natural question comes to mind: What else is/will be there? What are the iPad alternatives?

Looking around I found some really interesting concepts. Although not yet available fore sale, these are coming soon and they pack some pretty cool features. And since the iPad launch outside US was delayed until the end of May[more info] the alternatives below might be more interesting for some of us, especially since some are already complaining about the new device.

The WePad

WePadThe WePad packs a 11,6“ 1366 x 768 Pixels color multi-touch display with a 1,66 GHz Intel Atom processor which will ensure a great experience for web browsing, watching movies and running apps. The tablet can run multiple application in the same time and  to differentiate from Apple even more is also equipped with a 1,3 Mp camera support for Java / Flash / Adobe AIR, 2 x USB integrated and a card reader.  The device will be available sometime in July 2010. And since it will be powered by Android you will be able to enjoy Nimbuzz chats, calls and more on it :D .  For more information you can visit their Facebok page.

HP Slate

HP Slate

Another great presence in this space is the HP Slate, which was introduced at CES 2010. It has a 8.9-inch multi-touch display and will be powered by Windows 7.  The device has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom 530 processor with 1GB DDR2 and either 32GB or 64GB. The storage can be  storage extended with SD cards. The slate comes also with a front camera , Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and USB 2.0 and HDMI-out.  And since is running on Windows 7 we will be able to install Nimbuzz on it :D !

Notion Ink Adam

This is a 10-inch tablet will have a 1GHz processor and some other goodies: 3Mp camera, 3 USB ports, HDMI-out, outputs 1080p resolution and and an amazing promise: 16hours battery life. Ohh, and it also has GPS. We expect it to be launched sometime this summer.

Nokia MeeGo

Nokia-Tablet

Are we going to see a tablet from Nokia as well? According to electricpig.co.uk : Yes, sometime around this autumn. This device will most probably run MeeGo OS and for sure it be connected to the OVI store. No specs yet.

The Google tablet

Although just a rumor, it’s to good not to mention. According to a NYT article the tablet will run Android and will be benefit of all the connections Google already has with editors and publishers. This is definitely something worth watching.

So what do you think? Will you wait for some of new tablets, buy an iPad or rely on your smartphone? Let us know in the comment section bellow.

  2. They all look amazing ! just like HTC HD2 looks amazing compared to iphone but just like iphone was the first of a kind and changed the whole concept of smartphones iPad will always be the first of its kind and then others follow ! I cannot just keep on throwing judges on devices i never used but the only thing i know is I tried almost every iphone alternative but when i held one in my hands for more than 5 minutes i went strait to a store and payed for one. IT DOES WHAT IT SAYS IT DOES AND ALWAYS WORKS AS PROMISED.

  11. With Google voice, you can add a home or office phone to be linked to that one number. So if you answer your cellphone you can really seamlessly transport the call to the house or office and the caller will never know. That will save your cellular minutes.

  16. I love the fact that everyone seems to think the ipad is the first of it’s kind, It is not. Archos have been creating devices like the ipad for years, although they call them internet tablet. Their new PC tablet looks awesome and I’m surprised it wasn’t on this list, especially since it has been out for a few months and runs windows 7.

  17. I think we are all looking at the iPad like is a new thing because the way it’s marketed:). Of course there were other players here, but now it’s heavily promoted.

Did you already played with the Archos tablet?
