Why is Gadu-Gadu not working on Nimbuzz?

Because of conflicts in the MVNO space with our sister company Gadu-Gadu in Poland, we kindly switched off support for their services inside Nimbuzz. This is in an effort to increase use of Gadu-Gadu’s own mobile product.

  1. Nimbuzz is a great IM, and I just can’t understand why you have had to turn off Gadu-Gadu – to use their IM, you have to pay them every two weeks (which is against Nimbuzz policy, right?), and also, their IM supports only their network, whereas in Nimbuzz I could have one roster / contact list for many networks… Now Im thinking about switching onto some another IM that allows to use Jabber transports, because Nimbuzz doesn’t support them (Im thinking about Talkonaut)…

  4. How long will not work? I ask, is it temporary or permanently disabling? Strange, because the Gadu – Gadu service is still running in the application Parlingo. Personally, I prefer Nimbuzz. The application, which offers Gadu – Gadu not work properly on my cell model (Nokia 5230).

  6. that’s nonsense! At the beginning of 2010 nimbuzz has been a really great application for mobile phones as real multi-messenger! What happened? First nimbuzz quit service support for studivz – at least a loss for german users – next following were skype, icq and now gadu-gadu. All within a year! i am sorry, but that’s no good pr. when can we expect yahoo, msn, gtalk, fb to be removed? A hint for icq users to log in via aim doesn’t work either anymore.thanks to whom? Icq? Are they willing to force every single multimessenger to quit the service? Well, at least it does work with slick 0.65 at present. My problem is, icq client doesn’t really run properly on my system and causes an enormous deficit in power management. Same with skype. Couldn’t you agree to some kind arrangements? I don’t think a multimessenger should pay money to a service that is free for anyone. But i still can not imagine that scenery. An advantage for slick may be the fact not to provide its own service as nimbuzz does but only appears as second hand trader. So there is no direct rivality to the other known services. Although nimbuzz has got the userfriendliest gui, the lack of support… At least you could solve the problem of icq “zombies” in my contact list… Still Symbian user of Nimbuzz 3.0. Who knows how long… Watch out for slick, the possibility to switch on a service and off again is just a bit easier than in nimbuzz but again? Doesn’t support fb as nimbuzz does… So i hope the future will bring some improvements for the nimbuzz community. Regards, Michael

Thanks for your comments and feedback.
As mentioned on this blogpost and the previous rlatd ons (skyp & ICQ) we have been asked to remove those communities from our service.
    Regards
    @astaldohil
We do not have a time frame for it, however we do think it could be possible to enable it back in the future.

  8. @queralt escrich: Thx for the explanation, but I have two more questions. You have mentioned in the post that your decision has been made by you due to conflicts with the GG operator and because they have asked you (forced you) to remove the service from the NB? Am I right? If so, is there any chances to run Jabber transport in NB?

    adam December 1st, 2010
  9. @adam
We do not have plans to enable Jabber for the moment but we will consider it.
In regards of GG removal, MVNO has requested to remove GG integration as mentioned previously, we still have good relations with Gadu-Gadu.
    Cheers

  10. Is there a chance to persist on skype to negotiate on skype tool kit inside nimbuzz we really need this enabled? Is there any attempt in the current time ? Even for return for something or ads for them because skype mentioned that it removed fring from their support because they offer bad quality for the customers and they did not listen to skype nimbuzz has a good quality what is your opinion?

Unfortunately it is not in our hands to decide or not if Skype will be enable it back on Nimbuzz.
At the moment this desition is just on SKype’s side.

“Since of shut down support for Windows Mobile, it gets worse and worse with Nimbuzz. Result? Good Bye Nimbuzz, that’s really bad because the beginning of the year was promising. So we are left with Fring, which is the only one multi-communicator for mobile systems, that I know of. Good bye, Nimbuzz!”
The text is strongly paraphrased because even in Polish it is quite weird.

But still, I have to agree. Gadu-Gadu is really needed to attract Polish customers.

  18. important that google talk is working. Gadu-Gadu dies a natural death:)

  19. Today I install Nimbuzz. In beginning i saw very good graphics, simple interface and full translate to Polish. According to me, unattended Gadu-Gadu unfortunately do not attract Polish users. If Nimbuzz will have Gadu-Gadu, them will be the best mobile multi messenger. I hope that someday this will change. By the way in this moment i use only Facebook. Sorry for my English, i am from Polish.

It hangs up, closing itself, and they want money for that!

I found the information that NB and GG have the same owner named Naspers, who decided not to disturb in the progress of the commercial services sold by GG. Am I right?

    adam December 21st, 2010
  22. @adam
Indeed, Naspers invested in both parties. Nimbuzz and GG decided it was better if we both pursued our own product offerings.

    Yrek December 21st, 2010
  27. I installed Nimbuzz for GG, Google Talk, Facebook, etc.
    Free I Parlingo.
But I’d rather pay and have the Nimbuzz!
    The only thing missing GG:(
    I’m waiting for good news:)

    Ircyk December 21st, 2010
  28. @Yrek: I think that jabber client would be enough good resolution to get GG. Due to the fact that both companies have the same stockholder I am quite sure that they will not open the gateway to jabber (as they closed that some months ago).

@Ircyk: I think that solution could be much more fair for everyone – if there is any paid service then it is up to you to have the proper credentials to get there. In fact Nimbuzz implement that approach in SIP module – if you do not have any cent you could not ring out.

Queralt what is your opinion in both questions?

    adam December 22nd, 2010
  29. I have installed Nimbuzz for GG. But GG is missing :(
So I have to switch to Parlingo. I will not switch to official GG so you are losing customers anyway.
I do not understand your decision.

    Best Regards

  31. Hello again,
I’ve just found news release concerning the topic: http://technologie.gazeta.pl/internet/1,104530,9303615,Gadu_Gadu_za_darmo_na_smartfonach____Po_cichutku.html

The text is off course in Polish, but you can manage with it using for instance Google Translator ulility.
They’ve said that there’s no more charge for using GG application on smartphones.

So, it seems that there’s no more business conditioning you have write about earlier and run GG transport on Nimbuzz.
