Top Apps – iPhone music discovery apps
With the right apps, discovering new music using just your iPhone can be a piece of cake 
.
Nowadays it’s super easy find out what is the song playing on the radio, get countless music suggestions and discover where will your favorite bands and singers are playing.
Some of the iPhone music apps presented last week, can also help you discover new music, but the ones below are specialized just on this task.
Apps to discover music on the iPhone
- Shazam – it’s a magic app that helps you discover what song is playing with a single touch.
This is one of my favorite apps ever and first of it’s kind. The apps comes in handy when you hear a great song but don’t know who is singing or the title. With one single touch, Shazam tells you what song are you listening. I used it many times and was super happy with it.
You can also use the app to see what are the most popular songs right now.
Tip: make sure you are close to the speakers if you are in a place where is a lot of background noise.
- SoundHound – similar to Shazam plus it can recognize the a song if you hum it
I know, sounds far fetched but that’s what they say. If you have talent and you can sing the song you are searching, the app can identify it just by listening to you. For me never worked though … maybe because I never had that much talent at humming .
This is a great alternative to Shazam and my recommendation is to try them both and see which one you like most.
- Ghostly Discovery – is a mood-based radio station featuring the entire Ghostly International and Spectral Sound catalogs as streaming audio.
This app let’s you discover music based on how you feel. Now that’s a different approach! All you need to do is: set the MOOD by moving the wheel, set the DIGITAL / ORGANIC and FASTER / SLOWER sliders to suit your taste and then the app builds a playlist that matches exactly how you’re feeling, right now. I tried a few times and worked pretty well 
- Chompin – it’s an app that offers you a unique selection of hand picked songs, from thousands of blogs divided in 52 Categories.
Chompin is an app for those who like new sounds and who listen tomorrows trending music and the best part about this app is its quality check, since all the tracks are hand picked. All the tracks I discovered through this app were great.
- Share My Playlist – is a complementary service to Spotify.
With this app you can discover thousands of playlists that you can play via Spotify. SMP is super easy to use, just select a playlist from the featured ones or from a predefined category and hit play. If you have Spotify on your phone this is a must have app.
- MTV music meter – is a daily list of artists trending right now.
The app helps you discover what artists are popular right now and others like them through audio samples, photos, recent tweets, news articles, and bios. Also you can chart your own discovery path by searching through over 1 million artists.
- Concert Vault – gives you access to the world’s largest collection of live concert recordings.
With this app you can listen to the latest additions, most popular concerts and any of the four available radio stations playing hundreds of songs from thousands of concerts spanning the 1950’s through today. The main reason I included this app in the list is because I don’t usually listen to this kind of music, so every time I use the app I feel i discover new tracks .
- Local Concerts – notifies you when your favorite bands have a gig in town.. or close by.
This is a great app to discover concerts around you and new music. Using Local Concerts you can see what bands are playing in your area and the cool part is that it can personalize the list with the artist from your iTunes library
Bonus app:
Nimbuzz – is a must have app for anyone with an iPhone, one of the best social apps for your iPhone. With Nimbuzz you can call and chat for free with all your Nimbuzz friends, and even add other IM communities like Facebook, MSN or Yahoo!
