New Nimbuzz for Symbian brings back Tabbed Chatting

Hey guys, Tabbed chatting is back on the latest Nimbuzz Symbian 3.3.1 which is now available to download. We had updated our Nimbuzz Symbian to 3.3 last month and introduced a lot of new features.

One of the first things I’m sure you will notice is the beautifully redesigned Home Screen. We made the icons bigger and rearranged them in grid view so you can access the most important functions with a single touch. Even more exciting is that we added three new icons to the list: Recent Chats, N-World and Groupchat

Here is the complete overview of Nimbuzz 3.3.1 for Nokia Symbian phones:

  • Three new icons added: Recent Chats, N-World and Groupchat
  • Block contacts that annoy you
  • New “Notifiable” icon – the green half moon
  • Change your password from the inside the app
  • 30% faster login
  • Redesigned Home Screen for fast access to your favorite features

The icon with a half green moon stands for Notifiable and it will appear only next to your Nimbuzz contacts that closed the Nimbuzz app but can still receive push (on the iPhone and Android) or Ping notifications (on the Java and Symbian phones).

  2. This symbian update for me is A-OK!! Big up to that & i’d like to thank your team as well but a little bug is still there to be reviewed. The Twitter app which you offer with Nimbuzz is still unable to retrieve the ”trending topics” since a month or two. I reported this bug earlier as well but nobody paid attention to it. One of your administrator also promised me to come up with a solution but it never happened. My satisfaction with Nimbuzz and its services is 100% but the bugs or problems that we report on your blog should be taken into the consideration. Hope you’ll come up with a solution to this problem and i’m sure that this is gonna happen! Thanks. :)

  3. hello. How can i convert my nimbuzz ad-free(v 3.2.2) i bought from nokia (ovi) store to dis new version (v 3.3.1). Please help me. I dont want to be seeing that nokia advert on my screen.

  4. This version is stable but still got some not so serious bugs. For example, when you switch your contact view From Double Line to Single Line, some contact just disappear below screen. Try it you’ll see.
    The grid view is useful, but you cannot rearrange the icon which makes it practically useless.
    More features have been remove, like chat setting>text style chat. In private chat there is only simple, normal, speech bubbles, and text has been room.
    In chatroom speech bubble and normal chat setting has been remove.
    The favourite tab is useless this also can be remove. Otherwise it is stable and ok. Developer have done great job.

  5. Still no splitscreen input!? Are YOU KIDDING ME?! I have repeatedly showed you in mails how to implement it! It’s not a big deal, yet you refuse to do it!? What’s your goddamn issue!? I have read about 5 comments in this blog, that it’s a technical limitation under Symbian. It is not! It’s your fault for not fragmenting the installer or doing a clever installationscript that can check like any proper symbian coder would do the platform that you’re deploying on. Symbian^3 supported splitscreen from its very first release and since Anna Update has become even easier! This makes this nice app totally unusable!


    So sad and upset.

    group chat will work only when you have your nimbuzz contacts are available to chat. If none of your nimbuzz contacts are online, then you will not see any one.

  8. @MoritzJT you’re right! it’s incredible that Nimbuzz still doesn’t have Split-Scree Keyboard!
    it’s really annoying to use without split-screen keyboard if you have a full-touch device!

  10. Yes the group chat will work only if you have online available contacts in your list else it will not work. Group chat is made by grouping online users. So obviously if no contacts is online there won’t be any group chat.
    The group chat section is only a facility Nimbuzz provided to easily group chat. The group chat was already their in any version of Java and symbian Nimbuzz.
    Nimbuzz 3.2 is still better than Nimbuzz 3.3

  12. chat room arrangement is very bad ..some people think all the rooms are empty if the first one is empty and they go away..some try to search more but the search stuck so they leave please make an attention in these cases ,

    after updating to 3.3.1 all my online CONTACTS GOT DELETED. a message appearing in all opened chat tabs ” is not on your contact list anymore. you can’t continue this chat.”

    just my phone book contacts are appearing and haven’t found any way to turn off showing phone book contacts. Even i can’t add my online contacts anymore…

    Still have the same issue with chat sound notification.

    I think i have to switch back to 3.2 again. Why do you guys release a version without proper test :(

    Any error message? Let us know.

    Ae you using the search option? which keywords do you use?
    Let us know so we can try to reproduce this issue and find a fix.
    We do not remove user’s contacts, it could be that some of your contacts have deleted you as a contact.
    We have had to remove the Ad-fee version from the Nokia Ovi Store.

  20. A suggestion about all the clients: An option to import/export contact list.Maybe that is not good idea to save it on our computer then you can add a future that allow us to backup it into Nimbuzz servers like the phone book backup that was available in past.

Why chat rooms are not searchable due to this my 2 chat rooms are destroyed… Before they were very famous chat rooms what u did nimbuzz with searching chat rooms only few chat rooms are visible on top of the room list either they are full or having zero users in that chat room….     Due to lack of usage/downloads we have decided to remove the paid version form Nokia Ovi store.
    The free version is still available on Ovi Store and on

    Our team is working inorder to improve our chatroom moderation system and prevent this kind of behavior.

    Nimbuzz has recently made an agreement with TurkCell to offer an official cobranded Nimbuzz-TurkCell mobile app.

    This implies that both Nimbuzz VoIP calls and NimbuzzOut calls will be blocked for the TurkCell subscribers due to regulatory constraints.

    TurkCell and Nimbuzz will notify you when anything changes in the rules on blocking

How about those who bought that version off Ovi Store simply because they didn’t want to see those very annoying ads? Are you sorting this issue? Hope you will solve a problem of searching chat rooms soon… Users are facing problem coz of availablity of few chat rooms in search option that few chat rooms are available on the top of list everytime whether they are full of users or their is no users in that few chat rooms and our chat rooms found last in thousand of chat rooms wether our chat room is full of users… Please fix the problem of searching chat room soon…

    kinldy arrange this ads free version for those who are interested regardless of the number of dowaloads.
    It is really annoying these ads as we are used to enjoy the ads free feature.

    Not only did it not get updated to the newer version, Ovi Store auto-updated me to the annoying ad-support version without telling me, the ad-free version’s been removed from Ovi and I can’t downgrade back to ad-free!

    No, Nokia Support say that Nimbuzz have made the decision to remove Nimbuzz Ad-Free from the store.

    Even if you don’t plan on updating it any further, can you please restore it to the store so that those of us who have paid for the app can download what we’ve purchased.

    I’m happy staying at an older version of Nimbuzz if it means no ads but at the moment you’ve made the choice to stop me from being able to use what I’ve paid for.

    Alternatively, please email me a copy of the last version of the .sisx installer for Nimbuzz Ad-Free.

    For some odd reasons the ads disappeared on my Nokia E72 a couple of days ago. I got my hopes up high but ehh today they reappeared let again. Guys, really, you need to find a solution for this concern. It’s getting extremely annoying. Fring offers their VoIP service users the option to turn ads off. A way to handle things here as well. Or just make the app ad free for those who purchased it via Nokia Store earlier. I’m sure you could keep track of those users running Nimbuzz on an ad free platform. My 2 cents.

    Either restore it at the current version or agree to supply the installer via alternate means.

    You do realise you’re breaking many country’s Fair Trading laws, right?

  56. It is really dissappointing that I have recieved the reply from Nimbuzz support saying that they can’t do anything and contact Nokia Ovi store,they only supplied the ads free. I have contacted Ovi store first and forwarded the email reply from them to Nimbuzz support.
    This is not fair at all. Nimbuzz only withdrawn the application, not Nokia. So it is your responsibility and obligation to customers to provide an alternative.

  74. dear Nimbuzz i relly like this app but the v3.2.2 was so much better, because it was easier to use and i could easily configurate it, but this i cant, for example i cant find the option about saving chat history its annoying for me and i cant hide thing. And the most important what is relly really annoying i spent money to buy the ad-free version and then i downloaded the new version and its full of adverts and the older version from ovi store suddenly disappeared

    1. Please fix the bugs I mentioned before.
    2. Please add Skype again, at least in the ad-free version.
    nimbuzz is the best app for social networks. Skype delivers an old symbian version, which eats to much RAM.

  89. For the last week, all my contacts show offline status. Tried on Nokia and Android and the same problem. Even re-installed Nimbuzz on Nokia. Is there a known issue? The accounts show a tick and my status shows online but no contacts are online.

    Please fix the bugs.
    nimbuzz is the best IM software, but you have to hurry up a little bit.
    I mentioned the symbian problems before, nothing happens.
    The nimbuzz PC version is not working on my Win7 64-bit machine.

    Another aspect is to cut of Skype, ICQ, etc.
    If the nimbuzz contact search is not comfortable, I have less contacts every month.
    In the supported networks Facebook, Yahoo, MSN, and Gtalk I’m not really interested.

    Please help us with working clients and we will help you with a big amount of users, maybe with nimbuzzOut too.

  105. @gman – Thanks for reporting, we have been informed of some blocking issues in the UAE. Since this is a governmental decision and we do not have an alternative url, there is not much we can do about the blocking.

  106. @abinasca – Video Calling is supported on Nimbuzz PC version 2.2.1 and iPhone 2.4. It is on our roadmap, to provide this feature to other platforms as well, but unfortunately we cannot provide you with a fix date for it to be implemented.     Everytime i try to send a photo i get the message UNKNOWN SERVER ERROR OCCURED. Could you please help me on that? Is there something that I should do?

  109. @sisie – Please check the file size of the photo (should not exceed 5MB). If you are still facing the issues, please let us know the following details:
    File Size
    File Format
    Network Provider
    When exactly does this error appear?

  110. Thank you for your reply. The files I want to send are much more lower than 5MB usually they are around 200KB.
    The format is jpg and as I told you I am using a nokia 500 with symbian belle, nimbuzz 3.3.1.
    My provider is vodafone.
    The error occures little after I try to send the file.

  116. Hi, it seems that the SIP feature on Nimbuzz for Symbian (using it with a Nokia 5800 – didn’t try with other versions) has some unexplicable (at least for me) limitation: it requires to have a username in the format user@domain.something.
    My username with my SIP provider ( doesn’t have this format but it’s simply a number, and Nimbuzz simply doesn’t accept it.
    Any chance to get this issue fixed in future versions?

    Username: your unique personal identification code
    Password: the password you received via email from Messagenet after registering for FreeNumber or SmartNumber.

  122. @samir – You can only sort your online and offline contacts. However, your online contacts and other contacts on notification will appear together.
