Nimbuzz Symbian Certificate error workaround

Hi All Symbian Nimbuzzers,

As some of you have been noticing an error while installing Nimbuzz on their devices. The errors can be “Certificate expired”, “Update error” OR “Required Application access not granted”. The problem is caused due to a Nokia authentication certificate, which expired on 20th Oct 2012. Due to which, Nimbuzz cannot be installed on few old devices which still contain this expired certificate. We are closely working with Nokia in getting this sorted asap!

Additional facts:

  1. This issue does not affect ALL users. Only certain users who are using Symbian 3rd edition devices and the devices which are pretty old(2007 era)
  2. The security measures are not introduced in new version on Symbian S60. There have been there since 2006-2007 time frame

In the meanwhile you can try the below steps to get it back running:

For removing this error please follow the below mention steps -

  1. Open your mobile main Menu
  2. Navigate to Settings -> General -> Date and time
  3. Now change the date to some months before(in our case it should be before 21st Oct, just take 1st Sept.)
  4. Now download and install the application
  5. Don’t forget to change date back to original date

If the problem still persists :

  • Go to Application Manager > Options > Settings and
  • Set “Online Certificate check” = Off and Software Installation = All

UPDATE: If you own an older phone you might receive the following error:

Installation security error. Unable to install

To solve this error and to install application navigate to Tools -> Options -> Setting -> Software Installation and change setting to OFF.

Let us know your feedback on the same in the comments section below. Or you can write back to us on support@nimbuzz.com

  2. Yeah it’s giving that error both in my old and latest symbian firmware mobile. But it worked just fine after i set date to 21 october 2012. I thought it may be a problem in nimbuzz software that it’s not matching upto the dates ahead of 21 october 2012.
    Hope it gets fixed soon.
    Cheers!

  5. Option 2 which is changing ur application manager setting will be the good option as it may allow u to download all the 3rd party application without changing the date every tym….

    zuber November 5th, 2012
  6. zuber you went the other way brother. The solution that you just shared is to be applied when you are getting “Application Error. Contact the supplier”
    Or
    “Certificate error. Contact the Supplier”
Inshort, this solution is to be applied when you are prompted to contact the supplieir.
As for as my experience is concerned nimbuzz client (for symbian) is having that error during installation. It’s just experied certificate error so playing with date in your mobile’s setting will do the trick and nimbuzz will get installed.

  7. hello, I would like to use nimbuzz on nokia n9 that runs Meego operating system, but there isn’t specific version for it, is there any solution? except nimbuzz wap. will we have nimbuzz for Meego os?(nokia n9).

    ever November 5th, 2012
  8. @ever – We do not support your device yet. We are constantly working on new releases that support more devices. Unfortunately we cannot fix a date for it to be done yet, we suggest you to check regularly our website to see if your phone is listed. In the meanwhile you can also use the wap version of Nimbuzz on your phone browser at wap.nimbuzz.com

  9. @salman – Please search for your device from the list and download the latest application from get.nimbuzz.com. Thanks!!

  10. @Salman- visit the get.nimbuzz.com via your mobile’s default webbrowes, you handset will be detected automatically and you will be presented with the download link of the suitable nimbuzz version for your mobile. If your handset is not detected, chances are it’s not listed then. Kindly let us know which hanset you are using.
@Zeba- it seems to me that you might be having compatibility issue. Let us know about the exact error that is being displayed when you try to install nimbuzz.
    If it is
“unable to install. File format not supported” then it’s compability issue and to resolve it just visit get.nimbuzz.com and download a compatible version for your handset.
    If the error is
“unable to install. Contact the supplier”
Then you have to select INSTALL ALL in your application manager settings.
    If the error is
    “unable to install. Expired Certificates”
And you probably know the solution to this one, just change the date back to 20 or 21 oct.
    And
If all else fails, then it must be a problem with your handset. You can hard reset your handset to get rid of all handset related problems, here is the code (for symbian devices)
    *#7370#
Note. Hardresetting will delete all your contacts (mobile contacts) and any data stored or any applicated installed to phone memory, will be removed. So if you’re considering a hard reset, do back up your phone memory.
Hope that answers all related questions.
    Cheers!

  16. Nimbuzz for Windows phones is lagging behind in the OS line-up!!
Why?? Introduce some quality features for Windows OS too, just an ordinary app is not gonna keep the users attached.

    Hyzebrattic November 10th, 2012
  17. @hyberzatic- we’re constantly working on new improvements and you will definately experience improvements in our next release for windows phone.

    mohammed January 27th, 2014
  50. @Mohammed – Please try the mentioned steps and hopefully it should work fine

A.) Go to File manager and remove all the files related to Nimbuzz(nimbuzz*.*) and then install Nimbuzz freshly. Nimbuzz should run smoothly without any error note.
“If it doesn’t work, try option B”.

B.) Go to application manager and Check if the software “APSServer” is installed in the device.
If yes, then please uninstall it and install Nimbuzz (Note that “APSServer” will be installed again when we install Nimbuzz, now you do not have to remove APSServer again).
Run Nimbuzz application, it should run smoothly without any error note.
    “ If it doesn’t work, try option C ”.

C.) Take back up of all the essentials using Nokia suite and format the device with the key combinations of *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code unless altered by user).
Run Nimbuzz application, it should run smoothly without any error note.
