What the Skype/Nimbuzz Breakup Means To You

October 25th, 2010

Nimbuzz Skype Switch Off

Yes, it’s true. Skype will no longer be accessible via Nimbuzz starting October 31, 2010. Why? Skype asked us to remove support for their service.

In 2008 we started working on creating a free mobile communications service for the way you live in the online and mobile world, today and in the future. A service used by everyone, no matter what handset, where they were located, or how they wanted to communicate. All your friends in one place, combined with free mobile calls, chat/IM or SMS/texting.

Read on for more on Skype’s decision.

150 million downloads and 3.65 billion mobile voice minutes

October 12th, 2010

Nimbuzz Infographic

Hi all, we reached some amazing milestones today!

150,000,000 downloads of Nimbuzz, and 3,650,000,000 voice minutes logged in the last year.  Yes, those are millions and billions :) .

Nimbuzz has logged over 5 million downloads on the Nokia Ovi store, and over 45 million on GetJar, the second largest app store in the world.

The NimbuzzOut calls, combined with the free Nimbuzz to Nimbuzz calls, and the SIP calls have accounted for around 3.65 billion voice minutes over the last year!

The Nimbuzz community is 30 million strong and we are seeing 70,000 new members join every day. That is pretty much one new Nimbuzzer every second!  Our universal communications service offers free and low-cost calls through our VoIP product, NimbuzzOut as well as free messaging and file sharing across all major platforms, including iPhone (iOS), Android, BlackBerry, Symbian and Java, on over 3000 mobile devices!

“Nimbuzz has been one of the most popular apps for several years running now. It’s ease of use, large community and wide handset coverage make it a must have for mobile users,” said Patrick Mork, CMO of Getjar. ” We are thrilled to see Nimbuzz doing so well and look forward to seeing them hit the next 50 million downloads.

Thanks all for making Nimbuzz a product for everyone.  Keep spreading the word and let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

Nimbuzz Demand More Mobile

Last week in our Demand More from your Mobile Phone blog series, we talked about how Nimbuzz transforms your mobile into a messaging machine by allowing you to send unlimited text messages or SMS to your Nimbuzz friends for free and escape those pesky operator charges.

That’s a lot of pennies saved considering the 4.1 billion, yes billion!, messages sent every day in the first half of 2009 in the U.S. alone.

Believe it or not, it gets even better! In addition to texting/SMS, you can push your mobile messaging abilities even further on Nimbuzz with instant messaging and chat conversations. Also for free!

Nimbuzz More Mobile

Remember when you first discovered Skype? It was almost unbelievable! Cheap and free calls over the Internet? Where do I sign up? It was something amazing to recommend to all your friends and family.

Nimbuzz then came along and we pumped up the volume by bringing that innovation and excitement to the mobile world. But we also thought you could (and should) do more with your mobile phone. After all, it wasn’t designed to be simply an ultra-cool accessory or just to make calls, but should allow you to do more.

We went a few steps further and imagined a world with the freedom to communicate from your mobile to anyone in the world, on any network, in any social community, on any device, at any time, in any way. Talking. Chatting. Messaging. Sharing photos and files. All for free!

As the lazy days of summer come to an end and a busy fall approaches, we know you have friends and family all around the world you want to keep in touch with. So here it is, the Demand More from Your Mobile Phone blog series – the first in a series of posts that recap how much you can do with Nimbuzz on your mobile phone. Yes, you have the right to declare your mobile freedom with Nimbuzz – connect and communicate anyway you want to.

Check out Part 1 after the jump. And then stay tuned each week as we highlight another way Nimbuzz is outsmarting all the others and making you feel like a genius.

200,000 followers, that’s a lot indeed.  How much?  Well think of it this way:

  • If we were to create a guest book to be printed with the names of all our Twitter followers, it would be 800 pages long!
  • There are 4 times as many Nimbuzz followers on Twitter as attendees at the Mobile World Congress!
  • Being a Dutch company, we are proud to be the third most popular Twitter user in the Netherlands.
  • The community of Nimbuzz fans on Twitter is 40 times bigger than the number of people attending the annual Google I/O conference.
  • All Nimbuzz followers would fill the 3 biggest football stadiums of the 2010 Fifa World Cup (Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban).

We have been tweeting for 2 years, 10 months and 2 days by now and got an excellent score for our tweets on Twitter Grader – 100/100  :) .  Based on the follower numbers, we entered the Top 50 in Social Media and Tech, along with influential names such as @Mashable @Techcrunch @Scobleizer @Wired.

Nimbuzz Provides Government Compliant Communication Solution for Saudi Arabia BlackBerry Users

August 6th, 2010

Nimbuzz Blackberry users in Saudi Arabia

This is pretty amazing!

In light of the situation in Saudi Arabia, with BlackBerry encrypted services being banned, people are flocking to Nimbuzz by the thousands as their primary solution for chat, IM, texting and messaging on their BlackBerry mobile phones.

As a matter of fact, out of 700,000 BlackBerry users in Saudi Arabia, 10 percent have now chosen Nimbuzz for their communications  – chat/IM/messaging — needs. As of August 6, we are seeing a user log in from Saudi Arabia every two seconds, with almost 10,000 new registrations from Saudi Arabia daily.

We are pleased that BlackBerry users in Saudi Arabia, both residents and tourists, are still able to connect to their friends and family around the world using our Nimbuzz service.  Because Nimbuzz is an open platform and uses XMPP and JINGLE technologies that comply with Saudi government regulations, users can still chat, IM, text and message on their BlackBerry legally.

Have you tried Nimbuzz for BlackBerry yet? Go get it!

Nimbuzz Security Tips

August 3rd, 2010

SecurityPlanHey guys,

We understand that some of you have security and privacy concerns regarding the Nimbuzz Chatrooms. We want to assure you that privacy and security is the top priority for Nimbuzz.

We are constantly working to fix bugs in order to make chatrooms more secure and protect the privacy of our users.  We are currently working on a new, sophisticated verification protocol that guarantees that only actual Nimbuzz users and not scripts are able to enter chatrooms.

Since chatrooms are one of the most used features in Nimbuzz for all you guys to meet, share, and connect with each other, here are a few tips on how to protect yourself:

  1. Do not share your password with anyone or any site that isn’t officially from Nimbuzz.  We never ask for your password.
  2. Make sure you have a strong password, not merely 123456.
  3. If contacts start to flood you with messages, make sure to delete them from your contact list.
  4. Do not add unknown usernames to your Nimbuzz contact list.

In order to guarantee you the best user experience, it is in our best interest to keep your data safe and secure.  Should you ever have any issues or feel as if you are not in control of your account anymore, please send us an email to support@nimbuzz.com immediately so we can jump on it right away!
