Nimbuzz Hits 50 Million Registered Users Worldwide

June 20th, 2011

Awesome news, we just reached the amazing milestone of 50 million registered Nimbuzz users!

Since July 2010, more than 28 million new users joined Nimbuzz , with an amazing 100,000 new users every day. This means that in less than a year the Nimbuzz community doubled its size ! :D

Next steps? In the near future we are aiming to leverage and improve our existing mobile social graph and add an entertainment layer to our existing proposition. By doing this we want to offer a richer user experience to all Nimbuzz users with access to social games, virtual goods and local daily deals.

Our goal is to create a new experience for you so you can enjoy the best of both worlds. By doing this we hope to redefine the way users interact with their mobile social applications and pioneer a whole new app category ;) .

You can see the latest Nimbuzz facts revealed in the infographic below but to quickly sum it up here are the most important numbers:

  • 50 Million registered users worldwide
  • 100.000 new users join the Nimbuzz community every day
  • Our users talk for 3.7 billion voice minutes  per year
  • Nimbuzz supports over 5000 handsets
  • The average Nimbuzz user has 203 contacts in his list

The Nimbuzz Team  would like to thank you very much for choosing Nimbuzz as your favorite free calls and messaging app :D !

March 10th, 2011

Not that we like to brag but Nimbuzz is pretty awesome :P , and today we are all celebrating the International Day Of Awesomeness.

What started as small idea in the Summer of 2007, became international movement four years later and as you can see on Twitter there are a lot of awesome people out there.

The International Day of Awesomeness is a celebration of awesomeness. People are awesome every day, frequently don’t realize it, and their feats of awesomeness are rarely recognized. We aim to fix that, with a special day to both perform and celebrate feats of awesomeness!

The easiest way to celebrate The International Day of Awesomeness is to be awesome.

We chose to celebrate the #IDOA with a tip for when you are sad :D :D :

RESEARCH: Mobile Communication Trends – East vs West

February 1st, 2011

Being smack in the middle of next generation mobile communications we want to reveal the trends we see emerging from our global user survey with 48,000 respondents.

Based on our findings people in the West (Europe, North America), using Nimbuzz on their mobile, prefer asynchronous (text messaging) means of communication, as opposed to respondents from MENA (Syria, Libya, Saudia Arabia, Egypt), who prefer synchronous (voice calls) ways of mobile communication.

A new wave of 16 MP camera phones coming soon?

January 21st, 2011

Because I’m already carrying a phone with a camera all the time, I want it to be an awesome camera. This way there is no need to carry around another device.

Of course, no camera phone can ever replace my DSLR :D ,  but the promise of 16 Mega Pixels sure sounds pretty awesome.

A few days ago, Renesas Technology revealed a new type of camera module that could lead to smartphones packing 16MP cameras and a image resolution of 1920 × 1080.  The phones equipped with the new module will also get high-speed continuous shooting at 15 frames per second at 13 megapixels :D .

Other than the S006 from Sony-Ericsson, I don’t know any other phone to have such a powerful camera. This means that there is still room for competition, so maybe we will see a new wave of a new wave of 16 MP camera phones coming soon :P .

But what will this mean for mobile data? Could these new phones speed up the adoption of 4G mobile internet or LTE? With each picture being the size of 3 normal ones, if you want to share it online you need a fast internet connection and an unlimited data plan, otherwise you can wait forever…

Research: How to become #1 mobile app in the Middle East

January 19th, 2011

One of the questions that 48.000 respondents answered in our 2010 global Nimbuzz survey was: How do you find out about new apps?

The results revealed different regional trends in app discovery.

Unlike Western countries and APAC (Asia-Pacific) where users find about new apps via App Stores, in countries from MENA (Middle East and North Africa) 49.6% go to their friends and family for app recommendations.

Word of mouth therefore is crucial in the Middle East and North Africa, so pays off to have a lot of happy users that will recommend your app to everybody. Luckily 98% of survey respondents recommend Nimbuzz to their friends  ;) !

In Western countries like France, UK, and USA a staggering 60% of all respondents look for new apps in the phone’s app store before searching anywhere else. We have observed a similar trend in the APAC regions and countries like India and Indonesia, where 47.50% of all the respondents also consider the app store is the best way to find about new applications.

Based on our survey results and experience, following are some tips on:  How to become #1 app in the Middle East region?

Nimbuzz stories – Nimbuzzer communities in Indonesia

January 14th, 2011

Our Nimbuzz fans from Indonesia are super cool!

For them Nimbuzz is THE communications app to have and they use it to meet new friends and build communities. Here our values of connecting, sharing and meeting are greatly appreciated.

To give you an example, we would like to present the Nimbuzz meetups in Indonesia that were born from pure passion.

A while ago our local voice in Indonesia, Meth, went to a Nimbuzz Meet and Greet, an event that more than 200 Nimbuzz users joined!

Yes, more than 200 Nimbuzz users from the Jawa Timur region came together to meet the faces behind the nicknames from the Nimbuzz chat-rooms in person. Everybody had their own custom made t-shirt with the name of the region or chat-room and the logo of their community :D . Awesome!

So are you wondering what people do at a Nimbuzz Meet and Greet event? Here it is:

Follow up blog post: Holiday contest winners

November 18th, 2010

Lars and MarkLast year we organized a contest for our NimbuzzOut users to win: a fantastic holiday to their most called destination and one year of unlimited NimbuzzOut calls on us.

Lars and Mark were the happy winners and we thought would be nice to catch up with them and see how they use Nimbuzz as a part of their daily lives.

Turns out they use Nimbuzz and NimbuzzOut to save money on their calling bill and stray connected to family and friends.

Lars, originally from Denmark met his French wife in England. Now they both live in Syria. Due to their international roots they are both calling friends and family in Denmark, France, Algeria, as well as in other countries.  Lars told me: “So for a couple like us that are very “globalised”, an application like Nimbuzz is great. My wife also found that your rates for Algeria are better than those of Skype! ;-) ” .  He won the first prize and we offered him a voucher to cover his holiday expenses, but instead of using all the amount at once  he divided the voucher and had several smaller vacations and a longer one in Istanbul :) .

Mark is originally from America and now lives in Panama. A lot of his friends and family are still in the US and Mark told us that he regularly uses  NimbuzzOut to call his friends and stay in touch with his  family back home. Mark still has another month and a half of free NimbuzzOut calling.
