Follow up blog post: Holiday contest winners

November 18th, 2010

Lars and MarkLast year we organized a contest for our NimbuzzOut users to win: a fantastic holiday to their most called destination and one year of unlimited NimbuzzOut calls on us.

Lars and Mark were the happy winners and we thought would be nice to catch up with them and see how they use Nimbuzz as a part of their daily lives.

Turns out they use Nimbuzz and NimbuzzOut to save money on their calling bill and stray connected to family and friends.

Lars, originally from Denmark met his French wife in England. Now they both live in Syria. Due to their international roots they are both calling friends and family in Denmark, France, Algeria, as well as in other countries.  Lars told me: “So for a couple like us that are very “globalised”, an application like Nimbuzz is great. My wife also found that your rates for Algeria are better than those of Skype! ;-) ” .  He won the first prize and we offered him a voucher to cover his holiday expenses, but instead of using all the amount at once  he divided the voucher and had several smaller vacations and a longer one in Istanbul :) .

Mark is originally from America and now lives in Panama. A lot of his friends and family are still in the US and Mark told us that he regularly uses  NimbuzzOut to call his friends and stay in touch with his  family back home. Mark still has another month and a half of free NimbuzzOut calling.

Nimbuzz/Skype Breakup: from your point of view

November 2nd, 2010

Last week we announced that Skype will no longer be accessible via Nimbuzz starting October 31, 2010, because they asked us to remove support for their service.

The news spread like fire and in no time was the top story on  TechCrunch, GigaOm, VentureBeat, TheInquirer and many other mobile blogs.

Here is what the media had to say about this:

Nimbuzz is not a small player in the mobile messenger / VoIP space either, any way you look at it. The startup recently announced that it has surpassed 150 million downloads and has 30 million registered users across all major mobile operating systems. Moreover, Nimbuzz claims 3.65 billion mobile voice minutes have been logged over the past year.” – Robin Wauters, TechCrunch

150 million downloads and 3.65 billion mobile voice minutes

October 12th, 2010

Nimbuzz Infographic

Hi all, we reached some amazing milestones today!

150,000,000 downloads of Nimbuzz, and 3,650,000,000 voice minutes logged in the last year.  Yes, those are millions and billions :) .

Nimbuzz has logged over 5 million downloads on the Nokia Ovi store, and over 45 million on GetJar, the second largest app store in the world.

The NimbuzzOut calls, combined with the free Nimbuzz to Nimbuzz calls, and the SIP calls have accounted for around 3.65 billion voice minutes over the last year!

The Nimbuzz community is 30 million strong and we are seeing 70,000 new members join every day. That is pretty much one new Nimbuzzer every second!  Our universal communications service offers free and low-cost calls through our VoIP product, NimbuzzOut as well as free messaging and file sharing across all major platforms, including iPhone (iOS), Android, BlackBerry, Symbian and Java, on over 3000 mobile devices!

“Nimbuzz has been one of the most popular apps for several years running now. It’s ease of use, large community and wide handset coverage make it a must have for mobile users,” said Patrick Mork, CMO of Getjar. ” We are thrilled to see Nimbuzz doing so well and look forward to seeing them hit the next 50 million downloads.

Thanks all for making Nimbuzz a product for everyone.  Keep spreading the word and let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

Demand More from Your Mobile Phone: Part III #moremobile

September 17th, 2010

Demand moreWe’re back — between our last Demand More from your Mobile Phone post and our Teens in Tech Conference, we had some time to think about what other things you can do with your “must have” mobile.

Our conclusion? There are so many different ways to communicate. Everyone is different and everyone has different preferences on how they communicate, even with different groups of people.

It’s pretty obvious that texting is not the same as IM or a phone call. A Facebook message has a different meaning than a text message. An email has a different meaning than a chat message, and a call has a different purpose than a voice message. Having all options in one place for easy management is what we are about.

If last weeks we have discussed about making free calls with Nimbuzz and low cost international calls with NimbuzzOut, today it’s all about messaging.

Android Stats - September 2010

According to the latest numbers made available on the Android Developers blog,  70% of all the active Android phones are running on Android 2.x.

This is quite a huge jump if you think that back in May 63,6% of all active phones were running on 1.5 and 1.6,  so the Android 2.1 and 2.2 jumped from 30% to 70% in only 3 months.

This change in stats was caused by the big number of new mobile phones released lately but also due the large number of upgrades including the HTC trio of the Nexus One, EVO 4G and Desire handsets that now run on 2.2.

A big advantage of this achievement is that makes it easier for developers to create apps.  Less fragmentation means that developers need to take in account less variables when creating apps, which means that we can all enjoy better quality apps :D .

Fujitsu says will charge your phone wireless from across the room

September 13th, 2010

SNAG-0023

Here is a news that caught my eye right way, Fujitsu says that it has developed a technology that will be able to charge your mobile phone wirelessly from a distance of several meters :D .

Imagine that, no more wires whatsoever! Once you get in your car, go inside you house or enter a bar your mobile will automatically charge itself.

This will have a huge impact on the way we use our mobile phone and our perspective on what means a good battery consumption.  If your phone is charging all time wireless than you can use any app for as long as you wish and stay online ….”forever”.

More mobile

A week ago, we kicked off our Demand More from Your Mobile Phone blog series to help you get more out of that hot little device that rarely leaves the comfort of your palms.

Let’s take a quick review of what we have learned: Nimbuzz lets you talk all you want with other Nimbuzz users, completely free! On top of that, we throw in calls to your MSN, Yahoo, and Google friends, also for free!

But we realize not everyone you need to contact has caught on to Nimbuzz yet. You probably have some prehistoric friends who are not even on the Internet! :P

So this week it’s on to the low cost options Nimbuzz offers to help you Talk More using the mobile Internet, not expensive cell phone networks.

We launched NimbuzzOut so you can conserve your cash on international calls to other mobile phones and landlines at much lower rates than the traditional mobile operators. You can save up to 95% on your mobile phone bill.

Nimbuzz More Mobile

Remember when you first discovered Skype? It was almost unbelievable! Cheap and free calls over the Internet? Where do I sign up? It was something amazing to recommend to all your friends and family.

Nimbuzz then came along and we pumped up the volume by bringing that innovation and excitement to the mobile world. But we also thought you could (and should) do more with your mobile phone. After all, it wasn’t designed to be simply an ultra-cool accessory or just to make calls, but should allow you to do more.

We went a few steps further and imagined a world with the freedom to communicate from your mobile to anyone in the world, on any network, in any social community, on any device, at any time, in any way. Talking. Chatting. Messaging. Sharing photos and files. All for free!

As the lazy days of summer come to an end and a busy fall approaches, we know you have friends and family all around the world you want to keep in touch with. So here it is, the Demand More from Your Mobile Phone blog series – the first in a series of posts that recap how much you can do with Nimbuzz on your mobile phone. Yes, you have the right to declare your mobile freedom with Nimbuzz – connect and communicate anyway you want to.

Check out Part 1 after the jump. And then stay tuned each week as we highlight another way Nimbuzz is outsmarting all the others and making you feel like a genius.
