A new wave of 16 MP camera phones coming soon?

January 21st, 2011

Because I’m already carrying a phone with a camera all the time, I want it to be an awesome camera. This way there is no need to carry around another device.

Of course, no camera phone can ever replace my DSLR :D ,  but the promise of 16 Mega Pixels sure sounds pretty awesome.

A few days ago, Renesas Technology revealed a new type of camera module that could lead to smartphones packing 16MP cameras and a image resolution of 1920 × 1080.  The phones equipped with the new module will also get high-speed continuous shooting at 15 frames per second at 13 megapixels :D .

Other than the S006 from Sony-Ericsson, I don’t know any other phone to have such a powerful camera. This means that there is still room for competition, so maybe we will see a new wave of a new wave of 16 MP camera phones coming soon :P .

But what will this mean for mobile data? Could these new phones speed up the adoption of 4G mobile internet or LTE? With each picture being the size of 3 normal ones, if you want to share it online you need a fast internet connection and an unlimited data plan, otherwise you can wait forever…

Fujitsu says will charge your phone wireless from across the room

September 13th, 2010

SNAG-0023

Here is a news that caught my eye right way, Fujitsu says that it has developed a technology that will be able to charge your mobile phone wirelessly from a distance of several meters :D .

Imagine that, no more wires whatsoever! Once you get in your car, go inside you house or enter a bar your mobile will automatically charge itself.

This will have a huge impact on the way we use our mobile phone and our perspective on what means a good battery consumption.  If your phone is charging all time wireless than you can use any app for as long as you wish and stay online ….”forever”.

Nokia X3-02 Touch and Type: touchscreen and T9 combo. Why?

August 19th, 2010

Nokia X3 - Touch and Type

Last week we discussed the advantages of Touchscreen vs QWERTY vs T9 and which would be the best choice. As @cycnus very well observed in the comments,  there’s a new concept from Nokia that should be included in our discussion, the Nokia x3 touchscreen and T9 combo.

I already had the chance to test the new Nokia X3 :D and I liked it.

It felt natural to switch between the keypad and the touchscreen. Typing on the keypad was pretty fast, which was proof that all the years I spent learning the keypad were still paying off :)   The keypad to me was still intuitive and comfortable to use.

When navigating trough the menu I touched the screen instinctively to confirm an action, not because I was prompted to. In other words it was very easy for me to adapt to the phone’s advantage of getting the best of both worlds.

The learning period was really short.

The X3 will be priced at $161 (125 Euros).

Touchscreen vs QWERTY vs T9: What’s Best?

August 9th, 2010

I still remember my first mobile phone like it was yesterday! It was a Nokia 1010 and it was so cool back then. I could send text messages, call my friends and even play snake on it :D .  Not a lot but it was so nice to have a mobile :P !

Later on I have tested and owned quite a few mobiles and from Nokia I switched to Sony Ericsson, to HTC back to  Nokia and of course iPhone. Using all these models I had the opportunity to try T9 mobiles, QWERTY phones and touch screens and  each time I changed my phone I needed a short period to adapt  to the keyboard, menu, functionality, ringtone and other small things that each phone has.

However I guess the biggest changes were when I switched from T9 to QWERTY and from QWERTY to touch screen, each time I felt a big improvement and finally after all these years of testing and switching back and forth I can say: my favorite mobile phones are the touchscreen ones :) .

Future phones: Nokia and HTC phone concepts

July 21st, 2010

future phones

What does the future hold for us? Personally I hope at least one of these 2 innovative phone concepts, which look awesome :D !

Last week we had the chance to see 2 amazing ideas that could change the way we interact with our mobile. The first one comes from Jeremy Innes-Hopkins that designed the Nokia Kinetic and the second one comes from Andrew Kim that reinvented the HTC look.

It’s official: Broadband internet is a legal right!

July 5th, 2010

legal

… in Finland. As you might recall, last October (’09) we announced here that “Starting next July 2010, Finland’s Ministry of Transport and Communications will make sure that every person in Finland has access to a one-megabit broadband connection!” . Well it’s July and finally official.  All Finns have the legal right to an internet connection.

But wait, there is more ;) , according to the BBC Finland wants to connect everyone to a 100Mbps connection by 2015. Pretty awesome if you ask me (jealous).

Nokia ditching Symbian for N Series. MeeGo the future!

June 25th, 2010

StopI am pretty sure that when Romans said Divide et Impera (Divide and Conquer) they didn’t have this in mind! What?? Even more diversity in the Nokia plethora of operating systems. Really?

My only worry about this is that Nokia will have one more platform to focus on while keeping the others alive. I mean there are already a lot of variations when it comes to operating systems on Nokia phones. One can find Java, different Symbian versions (a lot of them), Maemo, and soon even more devices with MeeGo. This could make Nokia lose its focus and instead of creating one competitive device they will make 10 average ones.

Best Android phones [IMHO]

June 23rd, 2010

androidThere is an abundance  of news across the web about new Android mobiles and it seems like every day there’s a new phone showing  up or at least a lost prototype forgotten somewhere. With all the available choices it becomes more difficult to decide what will be your next mobile. In the end it might all depend what phone is available with your operator, if it has a shiny commercial or just interesting promotion.

However I love technology and I think that we should do a thorough research before we buy something, just to be sure that is the right thing for us and we will be happy with the features and capabilities of a new mobile. I also like “TOP 10” kind of articles, they make my life so much easier, and I don’t need to spend an entire week on the research. I can pick up the best choices and see which of those the best is for me. That’s why I decided to come up with Top 10 Android phone for this moment: D … Well only 7 made it in the end but that still a good place to start :P .

The top Android mobiles I made is based on my personal experience (since we test a lot of mobiles here at Nimbuzz) and the reviews I read daily on the internet. So here it goes the top 7 Android phone IMHO.
