Research: How to become #1 mobile app in the Middle East
January 19th, 2011One of the questions that 48.000 respondents answered in our 2010 global Nimbuzz survey was: How do you find out about new apps?
The results revealed different regional trends in app discovery.
Unlike Western countries and APAC (Asia-Pacific) where users find about new apps via App Stores, in countries from MENA (Middle East and North Africa) 49.6% go to their friends and family for app recommendations.
Word of mouth therefore is crucial in the Middle East and North Africa, so pays off to have a lot of happy users that will recommend your app to everybody. Luckily 98% of survey respondents recommend Nimbuzz to their friends

In Western countries like France, UK, and USA a staggering 60% of all respondents look for new apps in the phone’s app store before searching anywhere else. We have observed a similar trend in the APAC regions and countries like India and Indonesia, where 47.50% of all the respondents also consider the app store is the best way to find about new applications.
