Nimbuzz in the News – iPhone app

March 3rd, 2009

Thank you for giving us such great feedback lately, especially about our iPhone app! We’ve listed our favorites to keep you up to date…

Mashable calls Nimbuzz the industry leading IM and VOIP app, specifically for the iPhone! They say our simplistic interface is pure fun to use.

It is Tech N’ Marketing‘s all time favorite iPhone app – “going where no other app has gone before”.

People seem to also love our landscape-mode chat functionality, ReadWriteWeb said that having the ability to use the wider keyboard made sending messages even easier, and that it is “the thing that sold me on Nimbuzz“!

Movers and Shakers at the MWC 2009

February 27th, 2009

The Mobile World Congress is over, the participants have returned to their homes and offices, but the business negotiations that started during the event continue, as well as the talks about announcements presented at this key event of the year for the mobile industry. We were happy to meet so many people and partners during the event.

Nimbuzz was proud to spend its first MWC experience, in Barcelona, with IT-giants like RIM (Research In Motion) and Toshiba. With RIM, we presented a BlackBerry version to be released in Q2 2009, and Toshiba is to pre-install our all-in-one application for a super digital lifestyle on their supernova – TG01 device!

Entering to the mass market on devices for hyper-connected and stylish people is a huge step for Nimbuzz. Having our application, that bridges social networks and IM community needs, already on the devices, will eliminate setup issues and make keeping in touch so much faster.

Nimbuzz in 2008

December 18th, 2008

A new year is about to start 2009 with new challenges and we wanted to take a look back at what happened in 2008.

We officially launched our all-in-one mobile IM & VoIP app in May, allowing users to use their favorite instant messaging features from one contact list to connect with their friends on Windows Live Messenger (MSN), Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, AIM, ICQ, Facebook, MySpace, studiVZ, Gadu-Gadu-Hyves, and Jabber.

In July, we raised an additional $15 million in funding from our investors Mangrove Capital, MIH/Naspers, and Holtzbrinck Ventures. We also won Best Mobile Startup at Mobile 2.0 in Barcelona and got recognized for game-changing technology and market value as part of the AO Global 250 Winners during the Stanford Summit.

We added location sharing in August, so users can retrieve the location of Nimbuzz buddies to easily arrange face-to-face meetings.

In September, we added Windows Mobile support and The Times rewarded us with the “Best for Social Networking” award.

October saw us launch a new Nimbuzz.com website, and language support for Indonesian, Russian, and Polish. We also published the winners of the Nimbuzz survey – Congratulations again!

In November we signed a major distribution deal with StudiVZ and launched the mobile StudiVZ Plauderkasten, so you can chat with all your friends from Schueler- Studi- and MeinVZ on the go.

We also announced Facebook and MySpace support, and got selected into the Le Web ‘08 Startup Competition as one of only 30 companies worldwide.

The biggest news for November was “free calls chats messaging and more for your iPhone“. With Nimbuzz on the iPhone you can chat in landscape mode, and even if you happen to hang upside down from a tree :) Furthermore, we signed 17 global partners to our Operator Affiliate Program to bring instant messaging and social networking to operators.

To finish the year in style, we announced an additional distribution partner in India: Spice Mobiles, who will pre-install Nimbuzz on their handsets from now on. Our iPhone application now runs even if the screen is switched off, and is available in 10 more languages.

We are now adding around 20,000 new Nimbuzz users every day and have users in every country on the globe. 98% of you are recommending Nimbuzz to your friends – thanks for that and keep it up please ;)

Le Web ’08 Roundup

December 16th, 2008

Looking around at the Le Web Goodie bag contents on coworkers’ desks, makes me want to share with Nimbuzz fans, how everything went.

Le Web held a startup competition of 30 companies from Europe, and a few from the US, across a wide range of sectors and Nimbuzz was nominated to be part of it. Unfortunately we did not win, but we met a lot of inspiring people there.

Winner of the event was Viewdle, which won the “Gold”, followed by Webnode (Silver) and Zoover (Bronze). Silentale was winner of the “People’s Choice” award.

What we’ve learned is that we should have brought an extra sweater and our own internet :) , but there were also many great discussions. One of them in particular about the differences between European and US startups. Check out the video and make up your own mind. Comments are welcome.

Congratulations to all participants and winners, it was a pleasure.

White spaces – Free the Airwaves!

November 19th, 2008

White spaces

The Airwaves are Free!.

We feel that this announcement is very much part of what we believe to be the Mobile Freedom movement!

On 4 November 2008 the White Spaces project was approved by the FCC’s unanimous vote of 5 to 0.

This is good news for America! After a long debate the Federal Communications Commission decided to open up the unused airwaves between the broadcast TV channels. The public will be able to enjoy soon high-quality internet connection with low cost access and with (almost) always online connection.

This is major win for Google and for the other companies that were behind the project. Their dream of getting as many people connected to internet is one step closer to reality.

For more information on the White Spaces Project you can visit: Google blog & Wikipedia.
